How do I know if I have the Clunk?

Hi, can anyone tell me how can I tell if I have the "clunk" problem in my Mazdaspeed? When I go over bumps on the road it sounds like I have something in my trunk, but I don't, is this the famous "clunk"? It does not sound like metal to metal sound, it sounds more like the carpet or something is being lifted and down again when going over bumps.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Tico.

LOL, i dont have an MSP, but i do believe that is the clunk...

no one else was responding so i am, so sorry if im wrong, hehe

it's more like a toolbox jumping up and and falling back down in your trunk when you go over a bump... not so much metal to metal.

Thank you for your replies, I am still not sure if I have the clunk or not. It does not sound like a tool box with loose tools inside, but more like something getting lifted of the ground and back down, it is hard for me to explain it any better. I guess one way to test this will be to remove the spare tire and tire cover and drive the car over bumps and see if I hear anything, what do you think?

yes take every thing out of your trunk and see if the sound is still there. it could just be that the sub is loose.how many mile do you have on your car? it started happening to me after about 1,500miles. does it sound like a rattle or a loud bang?

not really loose tools, more like a box thumping once as your rear tires go over the bump. i think you have the clunk... if you hear something with an empty trunk, you have it.

I actually have alot of crap in my trunk, like my old air box and tools. That's MY clunk. But maybe if you ask a dealer if he's heard of it, this would help matters. If they dont know what it is, then they wont be able to help you. Problem solved. :D

I have 20K miles in my car, and you right it does sounds like I have something big and heavy in the trunk. Man!! so many issues with this car, I really like this car, but man!! I am tired of worring about all of these issues. How do I fix the clunk? Can it be eve fixed? thanks a lot for your help

take it to the dealer, they'll fix it. see the thread in the mp3 section, i just got mine fixed a few weeks ago and it hasn't come back and i've been driving around the bad streets of worcester, so maybe this busing will last

people would get in my car and ask what the hell I had in my trunk, but my trunk was empty.... it took 20000 km's but I finally got the clunk.

I have the clunk now for 2 months......and the dealership won't fix it...

I've had two noises coming from the back. When I first got the car, the sub enclosure was loose.....and it rattled. That sound came from the top of the trunk. Now the clunk is there cause it sounds like hitting a hollow pole going over bumps......its making me deaf.......

Of course, the tech that rode with me says...."What noise? That's normal"..........:wtf:

Go to the MP3 section and read the clunk thread on there - it has the TSB number listed multiple times.

The clunk sounds like you have 1 or more bowling balls in your trunk. That's the best example of the sound.

lets put it this way. i never heard the clunk or anything, and then when i got in ryans car down in dallas we hit a pothole and i thought something blew up behind me (i was in the back, vic - pirana - was in the front). it was that obvious. my guess is, if youre guessing and not for sure, its not the clunk.

but myself personally, im in tune with my car so much if the throttle even makes a remote difference in noise, i notice IMMEDIATELY. (like before i got my mil eliminator)
