2003 Mazda P5/ '82 Vette
I recently bought 2003 Mazda P5. Is there a difference in 2003 and 2003.5? Is it just the Serial number or are there some signifcant differences? (uhm)

The 2003's have the roof rack standard (although it is an option on the 2003.5). If you have a roof rack and the sticker listed it as an added-cost option, it's a 2003.5.

Also, the spare tire subwoofer was added to the 2003.5.

i hate my roof rack. how does the sub sound by the way?
Better than nothing, but if you bought it from Crutchfield, you'd be screaming for your money back. (notcool)

My subwoofer sounds good. It's there to bring out the bass. It's not there to disturb everyone else around you. My entire sound system dosn't sound as nice as my Eclipse's OEM sound system but my P5 cost $10k less. If you want great sound, spend some money and get a new system. If you want loud, most aftermarket system will do. You won't here much difference in quality when it's blasting over 100db.

It's cool to share your music with all the other cars around you until your hearing is shot.

Heynow, Aftermarket audio isn't always about loud. Sure I've got 2hp of amp power to push my speakers, but that doesn't mean I always use it. That extra power just has thatmuch more control over the speakers to keep everything clean and precise...

Thatsaid, the stock stereo is actually not toobad. I managed to hold off messing with mine for 6months. That sub really does do a good bit. Nothing spectacular, but it adds a bit more fullness to your sound. Unfortunately it also raises your cargo floor a good couple of inches with the foam blocks and assorted other stuff they added to give it some more breathing room.

You also have an Eclipse? In addition to the 2003.5 P5, I also have a 2001 Eclipse GT with the Premium Package and I agree that the stereo in the Eclipse is better.. the subwoofer has a deeper sound than the one in the P5, but the P5 is a 6-disc changer where the Eclipse is a 4-disc system. Not that I'm complaining about the stereo in the P5. It is still pretty decent. I only got the stereo upgrade on the P5 because I had to if I wanted the moonroof.

I have a 97 Spyder GS-T. It does'nt have a sub-woofer. Its bass cannot be raised to the same loudness as my P5 but my Spyder's bass' definitely more true sounding than the bass from my P5's sub-woofer. The mids & his are also better on my Spyder. When I'm cruising with the top down with the N1 growling no matter how good a system I have it can only sound so so. I think the system in your 01 sounds better that my 97's.

Hey Poseur. I never said aftermarket stereos were about being loud. Re-read my post, just ignore the mispelled word. My point was if anyone loves quality sound, don't damage your hearing by cranking it up to a chest pounding level all the time. I would've spent the bucks for an aftermarket system for my Eclipse right after I bought if it wasn't a convertible.
