Hot hot hot...

This is about my daughters 02 Protege 5. According to her the A/C will not blow cool during really hot weather (which we've been having heat indexes of 108 to 116 this past week.). We've tried to fill with refrigerant but it is full. Though I haven't been able to duplicate this myself, I have noticed when turning the fan switch higher, like from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3, the A/C light will go off for a split second. She's about 6 months pregnant so I'd really like to see what ideas for a fix you guys might have. Also she lives in a university town here in Oklahoma and I really don't want to sent her to a mechanic there that will just try to bleed her for all of daddy's money.

Does it do this while sitting still in traffic or moving? No ac works verywell sitting still especially in that hot of weather. One thing that may help it is to recirculate the air rather than having it draw from out side

The flickering is one issue that is a problem with the ground on the switch but if you didn't evacuate and refill at just the right pressure the ac system will not function properly and cool...

Got a call from her today (it's 106 here no counting heat index) and she said unit is blowing real good. I've been thinking of the evac/refill and that maybe a way to go. The switch issue, from what CheeseHelmet says, that makes sense and I will check connections next time she comes home. Also, how hard is it to change motor mounts on this vehicle?

Motor mounts are pretty easy to change provided you have a way to support the engine. The front and side mounts can each be changed in roughly 30min, the rear one is a real b**** but it's doable (it'll take over a couple hours if it's your first time).

I just paid the mechanic $170 to change mine. To me, it was worth it since I have no way to DECENTLY support the engine, plus I didn't have to deal with any rusty bolts... and this damn heat.
