Horizontal H/U.

BOOSTR

1 OWNR MSP
My head unit is stuck in the horizontal position. Reset doesn't help. Is there a fix for this. Too many miles for warranty repair. Thought it was the 10+ days I spent in sub-freezing weather. But its toast now. Guess its not reasonable to expect a unit to last more than 2 years and several months.

They all break, they suck. Typcily of kenwood unfortunitly.
Do a search for "ribbon cable" There are a ton of threads about what eact part number is the cause and how it can be ordered aswell as replaced.

Happy fixing although it is christmas and I suggest getting yourself a nice gift like a better head unit.

Hmmm the warrenty on HU are good until 50,000 miles...IF you arent past that then warrenty work!! IF you are....buy a new and better head unit!!!

it's toast! sorry.. mine did the same thing over the summer.

I got this to replace it. DeH-P770MP - $200 shipped from an ebay store.

Outstanding unit but its a waste to get it from an eaby store. You save $70 to throw out the pioneer premier 2 year parts and labor warrenty.

The DEHP670MP is good to as is the alpine CDA-9847. The only downside to the 9847 is the lack of crossovers. Other then that it is a pimp little unit for $199 at full retial.

Looks like its going to be the oustanding unit for me. Check out this site, they have the DEH-P7700MP for $195.95, shipped to you via ground service. http://www.bigondigital.com
Now that is a deal. Pioneer's website shows only one year for the warranty?

Yo man, sorry i didnt reply to your pm. School got me real busy :(

Basically you want to undo as much as you can with the old HU, and then you will need to forcefully remove the black cover up plastic and unsolder the ribbon cable and solder in new one. Hit me up again, I'm sure you will have questions.

It is not the same unit the posted pciture was a DEHP770MP, you are looking at the DEHP7700. The 770 is in the Premier line, which in this case I believe adds 4 volt preouts and a few more sound Q features over the regular unit. The major difference between Premier decks and regular ones is that the premier line has a 2 year warrenty. Although you have to buy from an authorized pioneer dealer to get that warrenty. Bigondigital is not an authorized seller so if anything happens its between you and the seller... pioneer could care less.

1sty, you obviously know your stuff. The manufacturer's website does show to different models ( DEH-P770MP and DEH-P7700MP). One unit does have the 2 year warranty and the other one. Its a manufacturer's warranty, not a selling entity warranty. So you could buy it from any reputable seller and have the warranty. Both units have the same number of RCA preouts, 3. I'll have to read the specifications on each to see the other differences.

Like any audio product, you have to buy from an "Authorized" dealer, otherwise Pioneer does not back the product at all. Typicly there are no internet authorized dealers for most any product line. Places like thezeb, woofers ect and previously cardomain are/were not authorized so the only warrenty you get is through them and not the manufacturer.

As for the 770, it does have 3 preouts, but I believe they are 4 volt preouts unlike the regular version.

Yep 4 volts vs 2.2 on the 7700 model. Glad you pointed out that difference. As long as its not a bootleg model, the warranty should be honored. But whatever, I have never had a problem with receiving warranty work. This is not a rush purchase for me as I have a machine shop/assembly bill to take care of first on another car. Appreciate everyones input.

They are not a Pioneer Authorized dealer. As far as pioneer is concerned, you are not even buying one of their units. Agian they must be authorized or their will be no warrnety. Any store that is online only and that sells at more then 5% below map will typicly not be an authorized dealer so the warrenty you get is from the store you buy from if you get any.

So what. Just register the product on the manufacturer's website for the warranty. Not trying to get caught up in the whole sales process. It pays to be a wise consumer and get the best price. Most warranties are not worth much any way. I'd take the cash in my pocket any day. As long as its an authetic product, there will be no problem. The manufacturer cannot force you to buy it from a certain merchant in order to get a warranty. There are laws on the books to prevent that type of tactic. Contact the manufacturer prior to purchase if that is a concern.

Your still not getting this. You can not register the product for warrenty or take any other action as if you bought this from a legit store. As long as pioneer does not sell to the vendor, then they do not and will not give the final buyer any warrenty what so ever or for any reason. It doesn't matter if you register via warrenty card or even the internet. If you ever send Pioneer that product for repair they will send it directly back to you as if you sent them an alpine head unit.

When you buy most any audio product via un certified channels, you get no warrenty other then from who you are buying the product from. It says right on there warrenty that you must purchase from an authorized dealer to get a warrenty.

Many times the product you buy through these channels are actualy B-Stock or refurbs or resold products via employee discount programs.

Just read JL audios disclaimer. The only diverence is that JL puts it up front on there site and pioneer still hides it on their warrenty documentation

My other Pioneer headunits that i've owned in the past have lasted well over 2 years in the past without any problems. I know there could be the odd chance that it's going to fuk up, but i'm will to take that risk. and it's only a $200 headunit..... not like it's a $1500 headunit.

I can confirm that you need to buy from an authorized dealer when you buy just about any electronic equipment if you want the company to perform warranty work. If you don't care about a warranty then buy at the cheapest place. If you don't care about a warranty then just buy at the cheapest place you can.
