HOLY CRAP! 31mpg

you guys expecting over 30mpg should calm down a bit. If you check the mileage advertised for these cars (if you still have your original purchase papers, it will be in there), you will see that it is like 26 city 29 highway, so hitting 30+ isn't to be all that expected...

yeah, those epa ratings are usually way off, too...but still, I was hoping for some improvement with the change in my driving pattern. Like I said, I've actually gotten better gas mileage a few months ago with 50-50 city/highway driving. Best I think I've got is 28.5mpg~ish. Ugh...I really have to go back to the whole not caring thing....

epa says 25/31, and those of us with mods can expect better

29+

I usually average about 29.......and can get better than 30 on the highway with my P5........better make sure you run 5-30 Mobil 1.......It helps......

I put 237.3 miles on my car before i decided to get a fill up for my trip back from the west side of Michigan today. 8.641 gallons, which, according to my calculations, gives me 27.46 mpg. I've gotten better mileage than that with a 50/50 mix of city and highway! this angers me...

I don't want to seem like I'm bitching...it's just seems like I'm never going to get to pull 30+ mpg in this car. Any suggestions? I bought this car used at 36k miles and can't really attest for the maintenance...but the previous owner was awesome and the car runs great. I don't beat on this thing...it's my baby. The only engine bay mods I have at the moment is a K&N CCA and a Optima Red Top. What gives?!?

27 MPG is not bad for a 50% city around 22-25MPG average and 50% highway around 31-33MPG average giving you an average around 27.XX mpg.

Try driving a long trip just using highway 90+ % of your time and i promise you will get above 30MPG going around 70MPH or less......

okay...because of this post, i ran a little experiment this past week. I'm at school now, so the large majority of my driving is freeway (school to home, school to gf...etc). My usual cruising speed is between 75 and 80, which is usually puts the car at about 3500 rpm give or take a little. this week I completely stopped using the ac and drove with the cruise control on at 70 the entire time. This put me at about 3000-3100rpm. You could check your tire pressure. More pressure=less resistance=better mpg. Roof racks lower mpg. Hilly roads, quick acceleration, holding gears longer and open windows also reduce mpg. I'm sure there are other factors, too, but I can't think of them right this sec. (burnout)

Oh yeah, I've only put in 2 tanks of gas in my PR5 so far, but I got 28.9mpg on 80% hiway on the 1st tank, and 27.25mpg on my 2nd tank that was 60% city driving. That was with A/C on, windows up, shifting early and into 5th alot, and a roof rack (with nothing on it). Sooooo much better than the 19-22mpg I was getting w/my 2001 Maxima (on 93 octane).

mileage is nearly all about how you drive. using fifth gear whenever you can helps a lot.

i'm driving an auto, so that probably has something to do with my mileage. I removed the roof racks about 5 months ago, and I just filled the tires up a week ago... oh well.

Still though, I expected better mpg with the changes in my driving patterns. I'll keep an eye on things and report back later.

All my driving this past weekend gave me about 32.12 MPG driving a little over 750 miles.....

This was with the AC on the whole time and averaging well over 70 MPH. I was stuck in stopped traffic for well over 90 minutes.

This trip included about 30 miles if nice mountain driving when i was really cruising through some nice curves and tristies in VT. One the way home I had to take it easy due to heavy rain and I had some beer with my dinner.

Well, I was super happy with my milage, especially with the price of gas. I have been using 89 octane for the past bunch of months......
