Mazdaspeed 3 GT Silver - bad to the mfing bone
Hi All,

I bought my speed3 GT about 3 weeks ago and purchased the optional "clear coat protection" treatment and had them throw in window tint (paid list otherwise..)

I drove the car home that night and the dealer said to just call back and make an appointment in the to get these two options put on...

So I dropped my car (with only 1200 miles on it) off this morning for them to do the work...

I just picked up the car and I have a distinct feeling that they just waxed it...

I found a bunch of road dirt along the lower door panel... Shouldn't they have had to remove that to get a proper coat of the sealant on the car?

Also I now see two small chips in the hood that I don't think were there before. Even if they were, shouldn't they have called me to ask if I wanted to have it touched up? (they never gave me any touchup paint when I bought it)

Does anybody know about this aftermarket "clearcoat" process that is supposed to help protect the paintjob???

Thanks!

Adam

and you left? i would have walked the car and called bulls*** on the spot. now there isnt much you can do..

LOL they tried that BS on me also. I asked them what it was and as soon as they said "a spray on", I said get bent I will wax it myself.

New cars come with a protection on the paint anyway.

Then they took your car down the street for a tint job and charged double. Man you have to live and learn I guess.

well, I made them throw in the tint job when I bought it...

But as far as clearcoat goes...how can they get away with that bulls***?

My salesguy said that because they cant put lead in the paint any more, the paint chips easier and that's why I should buy the sealant...

Is this new "clearcoat" proven to do anything AT ALL? And it comes in a CAN?

How the hell did they clearcoat AND wax my car in 4 hours when he originally said the sealant itself takes 4 or 5 hours to cure?

and why the hell should I have 2 chips in the paint already???

I guess they had to scrimp somewhere on this car. Looks like the paintjob is one place they got cheap...

Yeah the paint is super thin which sux but thats any car now. I was at a Mitsu dealer looking at Evos and they had a used Masarati and I looked closely only to see the same thing, thin paint and rock chips on the front end.

There aint s*** you can do about it but maybe a 3M clear bra. I figure the 2-3yrs I will have this cat I am nto going to worry about normal wear since its not considered damage or lowers value at all.

Ps yes you got bent on the clear coat BS but nothing you can do about it now. I wonder if it will wash off or be gone in a few months just like regular wax?

Jerry Lundegaard: Well, we've never done this before. But seeing as it's special circumstances and all, he says I can knock a hundred dollars off that Trucoat.
Irate Customer: One hundred... You lied to me, Mr Lundegaard. You're a bald-faced liar. A... ******* liar. Where's my goddamn checkbook? Let's get this over with.

Sorry man, it was all I could think of once I read your post.

well, after doing a little homework and haggling three different dealers, I think 1 free $400 tint job ain't too bad...

I haven't heard anybody say they got much off list for this car.

As far as the "polycoat" bullshite, it wa part of a protection package which includes interior protection/warranty, tire/wheel warranty (not a bad idea for these 18's... if you hit a pothole - you're covered for a free new wheel...), etc.

Everything is covered for 5 years...

I think the package was about $1200 bucks altogether...prob. a ripoff of oh well...

live, learn.

wow 1200 is a huge rip-off...and 400 is almost double what it should cost for tinting....Ive had 3 of my own cars tinted and my buddy has done at least 9-10 different cars and neither of us paid over 200 or 250 for any of them...

i was a salesperson at a dealership and it was not 1200 dollars. nonetheless, it is a good way for the dealer to get more money out of you, but most of the interior/exterior treatments are warrantied for some time. during that time, stains and (sometimes) water marks, are removed from your vehicle during that time. stains on the interior too. we charged 389 for each int and ext

i got lojack on my car, which was "already on the car" even though it wasn't already on the car. but at the dealership it was "charged" to the car, which means it was added as a cost to the dealership in the inventory system. i don't really care, it's not a bad deal...
but int/ext treatments...sometimes you pay for extra chit at the dealership cause it's a hot car. they don't charge a markup, but they know they can make money on these cars...
wait...what car are we talking about?

i've said waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much

I skipped mine as well. Picekrd up new ms3 on tuesday of this past week. just finished 1st coat of ZAINO but not until I clay bar'ed the entire car. Brake Dust, rail dust, crap...sounded liek sandpaper all over. Now after clay bar treatment...smooth as silk. I guarantee NO dealer will be doing that.

I'd have to disagree with the comment that paint being super thin is "any car now." My 2001 Focus saw the same huge number of miles (same commute) that my Mazda3 does, and it's paint held up MUCH better. I've spoken to the guy who owns the body shop my wife and I have used for many years and for many cars, and he was surprised to hear how delicate the paint on my 3 seems to be. He told me that car paints today should generally be stronger than they ever have been before. With my Focus, I definitely would have believed that. The paint on that car held up incredibly well and still looked fantastic when I sold it. The paint on my 3 looks MUCH worse than did the paint on my Focus, and it's not as old as the Focus was when I sold it, nor does it have as many miles yet.
