Highest HP 5?

If and when I do prep to mod, I will definately dyno prior to and afterwards at a more reliable establishment. (thumb)

Dyno results are often underwhelming because of HP losses from the transmission and wheel/tire/brake combo. Its not unusual to see 30 or more HP lost over factory ratings.

Bolt on a turbo and laugh all the way to jail:)

The dyno numbers were a bit odd. A guy with a Mazda 3 (2.0L) and an Auto trans had more torque (boom08) and the same HP. Our cars are wheezing at this altitude, as well.

I know of a couple more reliable places if I can get with the Evo club day. Should be a good laugh for them! (crazy)

We are considering trading the Mazda3 for a Mazda5. We need the utility and convenience of the doors, but don't need an SUV and don't want a minivan. What mods can be done? All the same ones for the 3 or no? Any suggestions on what year/models to stay away from? How is the standard transmission on the 5?
Thanks!

Hey Everyone,
First post here, have a 2006 Mazda 5, starting to mod it as much as possible w/o turbo, went to a Midas to check the exhaust and they told me that not too much can be done, is this true? Looked for a c.a.i. had to go with one for a 3, works well, but what else can be done on a budget. Any advice is welcome. Mazda 5 2.3L

Go to the venders area in the forum. Most suppliers have a section for the 5 with lots of parts for engine, suspension, brakes, body mods, you name it. Money is your only limiting factor

streetfocus and lilsilverwagon if you read my leading post, I think you will find the list of mods you may want to try. Most of the mods for the 3 should work but some products made for the 3 might need to be adapted since they are different vehicles.

Street, I think you should get the 08+ model since it has many updates that make it more user friendly, like rear vents, more armrests and LED taillights on touring models. The 5sp auto is also a big improvement. If you want a stick, you are limited with a base model sport but you can add all the touring parts to make it look like a touring. A sunroof will be your only missing item.

Lil, you can modify the exhaust but dont expect much. I think the CAI is probably your best cheap mod. I think you would be better off skipping all the other mods and just going right to a turbo if you want to make more than 15 HP. Even with a stock filter and exhaust, the turbo will add more than enough to make you happy.

There are quite a few 3 mods that can be done to the 5. Look at the vendors... call them and ask them if the part will work on a 5 if you really want to know.

I have a CAI/SRI installed. I have speed wheels.

Thanks, twntrbo.
We really want a stick, but my wife also really wants a sunroof. Hmmmmm. We will see. Thanks for the info about models- much appreciated.

You can easily do an aftermarket sunroof, I think they have a come a long way on build quality and are no longer a dirty word :) Glad I could help out. FWIW I really do love my 5. Its not the right choice for everyone, but for those that get it, its a great vehicle. I cant argue with the 350 mile trip I just did averaging over 28 MPG too!

sweet! I like her 3 a lot, so the 5 may just be the ticket. (I would keep the 3 for myself, but I already have a nicely modded Focus {hence the name}. If I get a Mazda for myself, it's gonna be an MS2 or MS3.)
