Yo guys whats the deal? Im new to the forums and am from Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Don't know much about cars (yet...) and stumbled across these forums when i was searching for places to buy cars. Anyways...

In the very near future (the next few days) I will be gettin my new (used) car, which happens to be a p5 :) . Anyways, I was wondering what everyones first mods were to their cars, and how long you waited after you owned it to start modding. Did you wait for the manufacture's warranty to expire? What would you suggest a good first mod that will give me the best results at a reasonable price. (under $500) would be best. Thnx for any suggestions.

Hi, welcome to the forum. Congrats on your purchase!! This is the place to find the answers to all your P5 questions. First of all, when you have questions, it is a good idea to do searches on the particular topic to find answers. Some people become very upset when you ask about something recently covered.

If your concerned about your warranty at all, don't do anything to your car. But I don't think anyone here can do that. Modding your car is like crack, once you start, you can't stop. I suggest a cold air intake. eBay has them for pretty cheap(around $30), or you can get a K&N Typhoon like I have, but these run around $260. From what I've heard, they perform about the same, but I love my K&N. Injen makes one as well as AEM. Check the threads on this subject. You could also look in to a cat back exhaust, these are the 2 most popular mods for beginners.

Good luck.

hey Ian....wow another Ian. cool. like most everyone here i started moding like weeks after i bought my car even though it was spanking new. it depends on if you want performance mods or asthetics, hell maybe both. top sites to check out are corksport.com protegegarage.com hopupracing.com optauto.com

for all the stuff listed in my sig i spent around $1200 bucks or so. the cat-back was the most expensive at $480 w/ shipping. if you are getting a manny trans def get a short shifter and bushing(big dif). for cheap power an intake. for even cheaper power a crank pulley(but requires moderate amount of work...havent purchased myself yet but soon will)

good luck, have fun and welcome to the forum. above all else youre (yes) getting a great car

hey welcome to the forums! you'll find a wealth of information here as well as alot of cool people.

be sure to check out our store, www.protegegarage.com, for any p5 needs and wants you might have!

Welcome to the site. You're going to like it here.

I will second the comment already made: modding your car is like heroin, only more expensive. The first mod I did was an Ebay intake with a K&N filter, then on to an AEM SRI, which is nicer. After a while, you begin to find more creative ways to explain why you're sinking so much moolah into your automobile. I myself am planning on going FI this summer.

Don't say I didn't warn you :D

ok, so how hard is it to actually install an intake or exhaust. could someone with a limited amount of knowledge about cars be able to do this? The way I see it is if the directions are straight forward then i shouldnt have a problem right?

intake and exhaust are two of the easier things to do on these cars - simple bolt ons as most people say

I shaved the body side molding the first weekend after buying. I recommend going through the "How To" section for a bunch of cheap mods (less than $50). Some will cost almost no money.

Have fun,

I have installed 2 intakes on my 2 P5's... I have also added ADR wheels, and a short shifter in one.

As for the Intake, I have both the Injen and K&N, and I say go with the K&N. The instructions are better and the kit is better in my opinion...

I also second the short shifter...

Welcome aboard! I just purchased my P5 about 3 weeks ago! First thing I did was Acetone the rear Protege5 Badge, then removed pinstriping, add in a SOny HU, RockFord AMp, Rockford Sub. Then last weekend Put on some new rims and tires. ANd also dropping it off today for some tint! I am at about 1900 or so after 3 weeks!! (loser)

We added leather to the wife's P5, the I put the intake on hers first, she also has a 7in drop down screen with a dvd player in the dash, then wheels & tires.. so just on her car alone I am a little over 3k..
