hesitation

Maybe this has been mentioned...but...
I have a 2008 speed3, bought in Oct. 08, 0 mods, just about to cross 12,000 miles and have noticed a hesitation when I shift...when my rpm's are lower, and I either step on the gas to get going or downshift to get going, that's when it hesitates, and then goes....anyone else experience this?

I find it to be fairly typical behavior of drive by wire cars.

yea, i gotta 08 and im getting it a little bit. but mine isnt happening when i shift or accelerate. its only when im cruising at a low rpm in 5th or 6th gear. maybe it just means i need to down shift(dunno). i your case you should check for vacuum leaks, try cleaning your MAF sensor, dont know how many miles you have but check spark plugs. also, if you have a dashawk handy try hooking that up and make sure everything looks like its running safe.

Then you aren't referring to the same phenomenon that we are. The OP and myself are talking about the slight hesitation between pedal actuation and the throttle actually moving.

umm... maybe im misunderstanding what you guys are trying to illustrated here but it sounds an awful lot like just turbo lag.

im at a couple months past 1 year and about 8500 miles with my 08 and i dont notice anything different with regard to what you seem to be speaking of compared to when it was brand new. i mean i know you guys are smarter than to think of it as an issue, but i dont really know what to make of whats going on besides the delay before the car picks up boost. when you're working in the low end of the rpms, of course youre not gonna get the throttle response you would otherwise.

This aint my first rodeo cowboy. Drive a 2 litre with a 42r and you'll know what lag is. I am speaking of the delay inherent in the electronic throttle system that so many car makers are going to nowadays.

I experienced this over the weekend... not in my speed3 but in my CX7. But in this case, I think it was due to heat soak. I was stuck in traffic for a long time and my intake temp was very high. I stepped on the gas and the boost should've kicked in at the rpm that I was at but it didn't and all of a sudden... boost. After I started moving again and got my intake temp down, it went away. I've never experienced it in the speed3 though.

It's your crappy stock BPV. It leaks and will not hold boost between shifts. I had the same issue and when I put the Forge BPV on it was like holly s*** this is a whole new car now. If you are stock get the Forge BPV and use blue spring no shims. With intake I would use blue spring with one or two shims. I use Blue with two shims and it works great. The boost is pent up and ready to go when you release the clutch, sometimes too much so and the car does the opposite of hesitation and surges forward. See my mods list. Forge BPV is $159 and can be had for less used. Best money you will ever spend on the Speed 3. Get the Cobb SRI with it for $175 and it will sound great.
