I have a 2005 Mazda 6 and when I turn the key it clicks. I have battery power because everything work (lights, stereo, windows). The wierdest thing is when I turn the key to start it, it clicks and the needles for the RPMs and the Speedometer turn all the way up and back???

Please any suggestions, I am stuck at home from work and money is tight.

Mine just did that the other day - mine was a dead cell in my batteries, thats my only suggestion

how can it be battery if I have juice?

I have lights, stereo, horn, etc. I also tried to jump it just to rule it out and it just clicks. Don't think it is the battery, but thank you for trying.

You do realise that accessories like th e radio draw only a dew milliamps vs hundreds of amps to start a car. Your battery may have enough juice to run the accessories but not enough to start the car.Have the battery checked/replaced its the most likely suspect....

It could be the starter or solenoid, but unlikely. Try the jump again and let eh donor car runn for 3-5 minutes while connected to your car before trying to start it. If your battery has a dead/shorted cell it could take several minutes for the donor alternator to overcome it.

okay...I will try to jump it again in a bit and let the other car run like you suggested for 3-5 minutes. And to answer your question about me realizing "that accessories like th e radio draw only a dew milliamps vs hundreds of amps to start a car. Your battery may have enough juice to run the accessories but not enough to start the car." I do, but I thought when you connected the jumper cables that it should start right away because it is drawing off of the other car's battery? I am not that great with cars, I only know basics.

It was the battery....ground mesh???

My bro came and hooked up the jumper cables again and left them on for about 2 mins and let the battery charge. Started right up. The problem now is, where is there a slow draw that is making the battery die????? He suggested checking the ground mesh??? Said he didn't know where it is on the Mazda as he normally doesn't work on them. Anybody have any insight?

When was the last time you changed the battery? If you haven't since 2005 (that's three years!), then it could understandably be on its last legs.

check out your battery, having power to all those things does not mean you have enough power to start.

How long did you let it sit before trying to start it the first time? The "normal" current draw from clock, alarm, accessories, etc and short trips will kill even a good battery in 2-3 weeks. Anyway, if it was a shorter time, you likely have a failed battery and just need to replace and call it good.

Bring it to autozone/pep boys/napa auto parts and have them do a load/draw test on the battery. If it fails the load test then its the battery n you need a new one. You say you know the basics so how bout doing the basics. Kinda hard to properly diagnose a car over teh internets....

dead battery, get a new one then check the charging system to make sure its operating properly with the good battery.
