Help with flashing sidemarkers

Hi everyone,
I've done a search for how to make your sidemarkers flash and have come across some useful info:
http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/how_to/markerflash/.

Since there's only two wires going to the side markers, I'm assuming the ground wire would probably be black.

The attached picture is an overhead view of my left headlight assembly from the front of the car. The front signal flasher has 3 wires coming from it: light green and dark green with a black (ground?) in between. If anyone has successfully done this mod, could you please reply. I need to know which of these wires is the parking light wire and which one is the signal flasher wire.

I've already bought some 18AWG wire tap connectors from Radio Shack but I don't have a meter/tester to check voltage. So I gotta tap the sidemarker into the front flashers correctly the first time otherwise I don't know what's gonna happen.

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

What you want to do:

Take one wire off of the bumper light, and splice it into the light green wire.

Take the other wire off of the bumper light, and splice it into the dark green wire.

Do not tap into the ground at all.

Result:

Lights on:
Bumper light flashes alternately with the flashers
Lights off:
Bumper light blinks WITH the flashers.

Other than that, the bumper light acts as it would now.

Also, ... if you go to home depot, or radio shack, you can purchase butt end connectors and splicers for telephone wires. These things are nice, because when you "crimp" them, they actually cover the exposed ends of the wires with a waterproof epoxy. If you go to Radio Shack, look in the end connectors, you'll see red ones (butt end) and green ones (splice)

Does it matter then which wire from the bumper light taps in to the light green and which taps in to the dark green? As long as I don't tap into the ground wire on the flashers, right.

Thanks again for your help.

Sorry for my ignorance. I'm no electrical guru.

I figured that it doesn't matter which wire from the sidemarker goes to either of the front flasher positive leads. Either way, the sidemarker will still be grounded through the ground wire on the front flasher.

Here's the lowdown.

it doesn't make any bit of difference which of the two bumper light wires goes to the two green wires on the flashers. You NEVER use the ground (Black) wire on the flashers.

Lights on:
Power from parking light, ground through flasher (not flashing, or in between flashes) = on
Power from parking light, no ground through flasher (when flashing) = off

Lights off
No Power from parking light, ground through flasher (not flashing) = off
Power from FLASHER, ground through parking light (cause it's off) = on.

Quite an elegant solution, which is why I ended up rewiring in this fashion.

Ok, I just returned from Radio Shack and bought some connectors and some wire. The gauge on the wire is 18 right? Or did I misunderstand the above post? But for the Love of God, where the hell is the wires for the side marker light?!? Are they a pain in the ass to get to or am I just missing something? Thanks.

The connectors I bought from Radio Shack are red (Made by 3M) and says it can accept 14-22AWG so I'm hoping it should work. I got the same problem getting to the sidemarker wiring. I'm planning on going from underneath the car at the area just in front of the front wheelwell. Looks like we'll have to remove the plastic splash guard that's there. If anyone has any advice on how to get at her, we'd love to hear from you.

Thanks

Take out the three screws at the bottom. Take out about 5-6 plastic holders out, as far back as you care to. Then you can just sit at the front bumper, and do the unwiring. The re-wiring is easy, everything is accessible from under the hood.
