Help to replace side sill extension on 2008 Grand Touring

I just had the side sill extension ripped off clean from the drivers side of our 2008 Mazda 5 Grand Touring in Black. The sills were stock and they run the length of the car. The seem to be plastic and are held on by a series of round white clips. I talked to the local Mazda dealer and they wanted $540 !!! plus $95 to put it on. That seems completely outrageous.

Although a little different, the Mazda5 Sport package has an $400 option for side sill extensions for BOTH sides, something doesn't seem right here.

Does anyone know a good source where I can get this any cheaper?

Can I install it myself, assuming all the white round clips are in place? Is this an easy job?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks skyhawk! That's exactly what I needed :) Now how do I find a vendor that will give me a good price or is $540 the best I'll find?

Thanks!

You can find the side sill extension sold online much cheaper ($320-340). Most online Mazda accessory places sell them. My driver-side extension got ripped off two years ago and I haven't replaced it. The car doesn't look bad and most people can't tell it's missing. I probably won't replace mine unless I'm selling it or trading it in.

Does anyone have the part numbers for the various clips and the side sill? Any suggestions on a good reputable online mazda parts supplier?

Here are some links. These are Mazda dealers who have figured out that some businesses do business online. Personally, a dealer that wants $635 to install half of what you can get on your own and install at home for about $300, is not a dealer I would give my business to.

After the fact but I broke my 2006 side sill off on a snowbank last winter.

Finally removed it and dealer wanted $400 to replace. The sill was fine cosmetically but some of the plastic clips had broken off.

To repair I sanded the plastic where the broken clips brackets attached and hot glued them back making sure to note the position of the bracket and where it was originally attached.

The glue seemed to very strong and should work.

But I need a few more clips and hopefully can find them online...

Come to think of it the clips are the "pop in" type, so I will remove the ones that are left. and Hot Glue the slightly damaged clips right back to the side sill itself.

I will then pop the clips back into the body holes and see if that works.
