Help Needed...

I have a broken spark plug, and the threads are stipped round. I can't grip it with anything. The ceramic is grounded into fine little pieces and sits at the base of the head. I think this falls into worst-case senario. If anyone has any ideas. Or if you can tell me how to remove everything needed to get to the other side of the sprk plug, without a mess load of tools. I would greatly appreiciate the help!

Ouch
umm hmm you can try one of those sockets with the pins in it that clamp onto striped nuts. Thats the only thing i can think off if its stripped

In order to get to the other side of the head you have to remove your timing belt and remove the arm that holds your intake manifold in place and exhaust manifold and remove the head it self which is a pain in the ass if you ask me. either way your screwed sorry man. Maybe someone else knows how to get it out

GOODLUCK!

Yeah.... it does suck major ass. I have already taken the valve cover off, I have an oil leak in the valve cover gasket. Fixed that and thought I'd do a tune up.... spark plug 4 came out no prob, but spark plug 1, 2, 3 all stripped. I got 2 & 3 out, but 1 stripped completely round and then it broke when I tried some other methods. I'll look into the socket with the attachment to get stripped bolts and such out. I hope this will work. Sounds like a major pain to remove the head.

The gator grip socket sometimes works you can buy it at sears for about $10 or something like that

in the future, go buy a ratchet (unless already have a set), an extention for the ratchet, and a head that is especially for removing spark plugs, the head had a rubber thing inside that grabs the plug, so you just untwist it and pull it right out, very very handy

what was your second idea that broke the plug?

I have to say, top mounted spark plugs are just about the easiest ones to get out. Our Chevy trucks you need to use all different types of extensions and tools to get into the space to even get them out. Not to mention they are under the burning hot exhaust manifold.

But really, how do you strip em? The six sided magnetic spark plug socket leaves little error to **** em up. I cant really understand what youre trying to say, but usually lock pliers work well in worst case scenarios.

G'd luck (2thumbs)

one, I did have a spark plug socet, and extention. I didn't "**** up" by using the wrong tools. I can't get needle nose vice grips into it because of the long shaft its in. All who have a miata should know what I'm talking about. Looks like i'm gonna have to rip the engine out.... (pieces of it anyways) to get it out. *sighs* This car has been such a pain in the arse!

damn. that sucks. sounds like the plugs were in there for quite awhile and got stuck..

Sounds like a head removal job. i dont believe a tap and die set would work, besides you could damage the head.

*cries* It is as I feared... This sucks. Anyways, thank you all for your advise. Wish me luch on this new task the comes before me.

before you remove the head though, try spraying some penetrant down in the spark plug holes. maybe that will loosen them up. Of coarse get all of the little pieces of spark plug that broke off out first though. as lok as you have not stripped out the base of the plug with your socket, there is still hope. Just try penetrant.
