For the second time, the display screen above my HU has gone haywire. The first incident occurred while I was still running my stock HU, took it into the dealer under warranty and they fixed it - citing that the issue was simply a blown fuse [Jeff = Happy] I currently have an aftermarket HU and have already checked both the 30A RADIO fuse in the engine bay fuse box as well as the 10A RADIO fuse under the glove box. Both were found to be fine. Has anyone else had this issue? Are there any suggestions as to what else could be the cause? I need some advice before I A) Unplug the screen and negate all the work that went into keeping it active, or B) Drop a bunch of money having the dealer fix it.

Thanks in advance.

lol, the first thing that came to mind was that song from the '80s. Then I thought that Mazda is from Japan and LOL!

Then I read the thread.

If the fuses are good, check the pins/wire harness connecting to the aftermarket HU. If they appear to be fine, revert to the stock HU. If the problem is fixed, then atleast you have isolated the problem to the conversion from the aftermarket HU to the display. That leaves a few options: A) The HU is not outputting the proper information - screwed - Get a new HU. B) The wire harness is not transferring the data properly - one of two possiblities, defective wire harness - replace, or defective design in wire harness - replace with different harness. C) Display is defective - the good thing about this one is that if the display is defective, you'll know when you change out for the stock HU.

Good luck!

Well, the fuses are good - it appears it may be a bad ground somewhere.

Just check with Mazda and i'm offically out of warranty now.... sweet i get to pay for this outta pocket.

Has anyone else seen this before?

Thanks for your posts and suggestions! Just yesterday our 2006 Mazda 3's display started "going Japanese" also! We have almost 75K miles on so it's out of warranty... Before taking it to the dealer, we decided to do a search on the web to see if anyone had had similar problems. I was delighted to see this forum. Up to now, we have had zero problems with this car and brag on it all of the time. We were happy to see we weren't alone! My husband is going to check all of the fuses this weekend. We have the stock radio. Will keep you posted.

My 2006 GT does the same thing once in a while. Do a reset of the ECU (remove the negative battery cable for 20min) and all is well aftewards.

Thanks,
Matt

Hey jeff,

How did you get to keep the readout? and still get a aftermarket HU in there? i wanted to keep my readout for the temp and time but noticed its all connected to the factory radio and all. :(

Edit: nvm, when i got home i opened up the interior and saw what i needed to do and was missing when i tried pluggin the temp-clock display up. Them chodes at circuit city threw away that black piece that attaches to the carbon plastic trim when they stuck the aftermarket pocket that came with the install kit for my pioneer.

Although the temp did show up and all i just need that one trim piece to make it look "clean".

Keep your factory HU.

It the only way to choose which function is displayed should you ever have to change your battery or reset your ECU cause you screen has "turned japanese" :)

Not trying to hijack your thread jeff, but do you know if its possible to change the color of that display?

I wanted to change it to the blue that accents the orange in my car plus match my factory pioneer that is blue as well.

Thats a known Issue from Mazda. my buddy Mazda 6 did the same thing and it was the display that was messed up... the dealer guy said it happens to all Mazda 6 and Mazda 3, and some MS3. my buddy took it to the dealer and got it change by a new display and no problem since then !!!
