Help me pick a Header

I know that this topic has been talked about so many times but, I'm looking to get a header this week, and i would like to know what company makes the best headers for the protege. I did my home work and i found that lots of people have mixed feeling about OBX. i would like to go with a DC sports header but i dont think that they make it for the protege. i found these on ebay. what do you guys think about it? are they crap or good?http://cgi.ebay.ca/TSUDO-STAINLESS-...ryZ33631QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

worse fitting than the obx and not as good quality as far as i have seen. i demoed one of the original tsudos when they started distributing here and was hoping they'd be superior to the obx but i was really disappointed with the fitment and clearances. i tried to have them rework the piece but they stopped corresponding with me altogether.

the best header by far was the AWR, which is sadly no longer made

I actully have one and it was great. It fit perfectly and the quality of the welds and all around construction was very good. just make sure you use dawn soap really good after the install or your going to have some funny heat marks after it cooks all the way

I have that tsudo header and I did not have any problems nor did I have any fitament problems .When I bought mine the auction said it did not come with a gasket but infact it did come with a gasket. Before I put my header on I had it ceramic coated to help reduce some of the heat that a normal header would leave under the hood. I have had it installed for about 1300 miles and no CELS yet so I dont see me having them either. I used the non fouler methed also discussed on this forum and great in detail instructions.
Here is a cpl of pics of header.

thats much different looking than the one i had tried out. very nice! did you make it black?

wow the stock headers are ugly!! HAHA. it looks good in black. what size are the pipes? it does not say on the web site. it sounds like you guys are happy with this header, and did you notice a change in HP? with a intake and exhust?

The header is Ceramic Coated in Black withstands 2500 Degrees. I noticed more of a gain in the Higher RPMs and it is much louder than stock. I do not know the size difference but it is a hell of a lot lighter than that anchor weight that mazda puts on at the factory.

i'm hoping that the pipes are around 2/25 ish...
JLBMP5... do have a exhaust on your P5? i have a racing beat cat on mine and i want to know how it sounds with these headers

Whatever you decide just make sure you get it from Ken:)

No problems with my OBX here.

As of now I only have an aftermarket muffler on that I had the exhaust shop put on .A catback is on my list of things needed but its not next on my list.at idle the car sounds stock but after about 3000 RPM it can be heard sounds very nice here is a clip.

as far as install goes, how difficult was it? I'm looking at getting a header and don't know a whole lot about cars, wondering what you do with the sensors in the stock monifold? And do they bolt right on to the midpipe?

Please help a newbie out.

Maybe a quick research on 02 sensors and headers should help you out! A lot of info as been displayed here, as well as good how-to's and how-not-to :)

Experience is the best thing you can get!

You can find a complete walk through on how to install a header and how to use non foulers .just go to search and type in header install and directions are there somewhere I printed them out and used them.as far as time goes depends on rust I have no rust on my car and did not need any kind of spray to help remove bolts so my total install time was about hour and a half. and that was with a cpl of breaks because it was like 100 outside when I was installing.

I have a Tsudo header as well. I am really pleased with the performance. I just spray painted mine though with 1500 degree paint if you cant afford ceramic coating.

Install is fairly simple, there are walk throughs on the forum that I used. Having another person there helps out a lot.
If you use the CEL fix for the second O2 sensor there should be no problem.

The o2 fits right in the bungs on the header. As for sound these motors put out some sound. I will try to get a clip of my beast. I have a "custom" can as well as a midpipe an a nuespeed exaust needless to say I set off alarms in the parking deck. So becareful if you don't want it to loud cause i am going to have to change mind up a little.

One more question so on headers and the second o2 sensor. I've seen two way of dealing with it, one using a resistor and capacitor, another method 'non-fouler' or somthing. the non fouler seems a lot easier but I don't quite understand how that works. And can anyone tell me if they have just put the sensor in and if it's worked or not.

That actually makes two questions, math was never my strong point. Thanks for the help.

It cost $2 at NAPA and takes 5 mins to put together and works great, no problems at all. All it does is throws off a lesser signal to the 2nd O2 due to the fact that the non-fouler is keeping a lot of the exhaust away from the O2 and you get different readings which makes the car think your cat is still working therefor no CEL.

Sh*tyeah, Pretty sure I can do this myself. I don't know alot about cars but I'm reasonably mechanical so well see. I'm gonna get the obx headers little more dough but seems like there have been less problems with them. thanks for all your help.

Check out my thread about my OBX header, it will answer any questions many have already ask me about the install.
