Help me install an MSP Turbo kit to my P5

I am in process of purchasing Tekkie's MSP Turbo kit.
I wont get the kit til mid febuary but I'm thinking of
getting help ahead for the installation.

The first question I want to ask is, has anybody in this
board have done this setup?

I know I'm gonna need an MSP ECU and a Oil Feed/Return
lines for the turbo. Other than this, is there anything else
I need?
better fuel pump? (not sure if the p5's and MSP's fuel pump are the same)
better clutch? (not also sure if they are the same)(i'm also sitting at 80KM's)

Also, is there going to be any cutting involved? would this kit fit perfectly?

Gauges, I know I'm gonna need a boost and AFR gauge...is there any other
gauges needed?

Other than installing this thing, I'm sure I can manage...but I wanna make sure I do em right. The only thing that I think I'm gonna have trouble with is installing the oil lines.....(I know bryan has made a very nice how to for this) but I need tips from some of you that have done it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....if I missed anything important thats gotta be done, please feel free to speak up...

Thanks!
Jeff

Yah, it sounds like an upgraded clutch would be a good idea. Also dont forget that your either gonna need an msp radiator(stock msp is narrower to allow room for the intercooler), or a fmic kit thats made for an msp that allows for an upgraded radiator.

Do a search of the forums. A couple of people on the board have gone with this setup, most notably 1FASTMP5.

Welcome to the dark side. (rockon)

ahh yes that is the guy I was thinking of earlier and could not remember who it was

dont worry Jeff we will get you all straightened out before its install time :)

Oh and Jeff I have a stock MSP clutch that I will be taking out of mine, it has 44000 km on it, I have never dragged race or even burnt the clutch once. Once I get it out I can show you some pics to see what kind of shape its in but I think it should be in pretty good shape. Of course a new one would be better anyway but its an option :)

is it a must to get a new clutch? My clutch is at 80kms right now.....
I'm thinking of changing it at 120?

How bout the fuel pump guys? Would the stock able to handle this?

Also, can someone explain me what a boost controller is? I know
theres a manual and automatic (apexi, greddy).....the manual boost
controllers are pretty cheap than the automatic ....400$ Difference...
Can someone tell me the difference between them other than looks?

How's your clutch holding up? If money isn't an issue, i'd fork the money for a new one, just so your doing all your wrenching at one time. Te stock fuel pump may or may not be able to handle the load, it kinda depends on your boost settings, and if theres a piggyback, or a msp computer.
The 2 boost controllers that your thinking of are manual and electronic. The difference-manual-tee's into your line under the hood, have to adjust under the hood; electronic-adjustable inside the car. Not sure of all the differences, or which might be more accurate.

Ahh OK. With this setup, I dont plan to overboost the car
so I think I might just set it at one setting.

About the clutch, my stock is still pretty good. I'd prolly change
it on the summer but not now.

What is the safest boost for the MSP? 7PSI?

The msp is set at 7psi from factory, so I guess that would be the safest depending on the comp. ratio on a p5. I don't know if there's any diff. in the compression of a p5 vs. a msp. Hopefully to keep things simple for your install, they are the same. If not, since youd be running a "safe" amount of boost, you could look into getting a diff head gasket to lower the compression. Good luck though.

OK, can you recomend a head gasket?
I plan to do my timing belt in a few months or so
I'd prolly change that as I go...

Thanks for the replies

GI: Head Gasket Update/Intake and Exhaust Valve Interest is where i found info on the new headgaskets that are suppose to be released next month. The original post was by MP3racer, so thats who youd need to contact for the Cometic head gasket.

At 7psi, you'll probably begin slipping after a while. You' will eventually need a new clutch.

My stock p5 clutch lasted precisely two full-throttle runs before it began to slip (I'm at 8psi)

You could buy a used MSP clutch from someone who upgraded. That would probably hold fine.

spec is probably the best bang for the buck, talk with Beau about it, I think there is a Spec stage 1 as well but here is the stage 2 http://**************************.com/cart/product_info.php?products_id=48

I would not bother with the head gasket at this point.

As far as I know the fuel pump is the same in the P5 as it is in the MSP so I dont see that as an issue if your using the MSP ECU, if you use a FMU then yeah you will probably want to use a walbro 255 or something which is about 100 bucks

The oil return line for the MSP setup does not go into the oil pan. It plumbs into the windage tray just above the oil pan and the N/A motors do not have the bung on the windage tray for the line. You will either have to get the windage tray from a MSP motor, or you'll have to do a custom line from the turbo to the oilpan.

Sorry, but I dont quite sure understand what your trying to say. Do you have
a pic of this windage tray ? So I guess BRYAN MP5T's How to wont help me or
it will if I follow that?

nice ... this will be a sweet project jeff.

Yes Chops, I am really excited of getting this project done. Hopefully
I dont screw s*** up.

Someone PMed about me needing the MSP's A/C condenser to work
wid my P5.....is it not the same as the p5? Can someone confirm this for me
please?

I tried PMing 1FASTMP5 and he hasnt got back to me yet....
