My mom just gave me her mazda 2001 protege and im in love with loud music.. so i removed the back seat speakers and replaced them with these

they worked good for a few weeks but one day on the highway listening to my music and it happened the car went in complete silence so i was like WTF.... i tried messing with the volume and no sound.. im at a lost to what to do.. i checked the fuse wasnt that the radio works but i cant hear ANY sound plz if you have any ideas please help

How did you connect the speakers? Did you cut the factory plugs off? Or did you tap into the wires? Disconnect the rears, and try to play the radio. If you get sound out of the front ones, either you have a blown rear speaker, or one of the wires could be grounding out, causing all the speakers to shut off. Just a suggestion.

i connected the speakers by cutting the factory plugs off and just connect the wire as is.... tried disconnected the rears speakers and tried to play the radio still no sound.... so i think one of the wires are grounding out (WHAT DOES THAT MEAN AND WHAT SHOULD I DO?)

Yes, it is possible that one of the speaker wires is grounding out somewhere in the vehicle. If you can get a hold of a multimeter, most of them can test for contenuity, if thats how you spell it. By putting one lead to chassis ground, and the other on the + side of the speaker wire, and the multimeter makes a beep, than that speaker wire is grounding out. You may need to run new wires from the factory radio, all the way back to the rear speakers.

Unless you did a poor job of connecting the speakers I highly doubt there is a short in the system. More likely is that you simply blew out the amplifier circuit on the factory head unit. Since you were listening on the highway (presumably at a loud listening level) and it just stopped working all of a sudden, that is the only conclusion I can come to.

I am not aware of any fuses in the unit itself that could have blown so if the unit powers up but you get no sound, you are SOL. Time to purchase an aftermarket head unit.

It helps if you ask that question before you buy it. I don't recommend any Sony decks. There are much better options for the same price.

I agree. I install car audio for a living, and I too have not had good luck with Sony products.
