Yea so i took my car back from the garage yesterday and drove to my girlfriend's house. Downloaded my mpi map into my computer and made some adjustments to timing after seeing my J&S monitor light turn on at about 3000rpm/15% throttle. So i make some adjustments and then later we leave to give a ride back home to one of our friends. After leaving her house, i park on the side of the road and turn on my laptop to send my new map into the mpi. Well somehow, when i tried to pick up the mpi serial cable from the floor, the freakin ground wire from the J&S' harness came off and the engine shut down.

now i'm ******* pissed. i finally get the car back and something stupid like this happens. i know my wiring is a mess but it was raining all day so i didn't take the time to put everything back. this shouldnt've happened though ... anyway, so right now, i can't start the car. the engine cranks but nothing. my apexi avc-r doesn't turn on anymore when i turn the key and the stock temp gauge is up the roof. On top of that, i tried to connect my laptop last night when this happened to the MPI and the software said NO COMMs ...... so now i'm afraid that when that ground wires came out of the J&S it blew my avcr AND my mpi tuner. coils are probably gone too but that the least of my problems right now

what do you guys think? can the ground wire from the J&S cause that much stuff to fry?

i just got the car back after 5 months ... the car wouldnt start yesterday afternoon but i found out one of the terminals on the battery was loose. fixed that ... and now this ... i really feel like crying. i never thought i'd say this, but right now, i wish i had an NA civic

yes, a spike in the temp means the harness has a bad ground. Fix your j and s ground. The car will not start if it does not turn on.

its hard to blow up the mpi, its probably the injector fuse or possibly still a bad ground. Your J and S should light up when you turn the key to start, cause its getting power from fuel pump.

the J&S doesnt light up at all anymore.
I fixed the ground last night. recrimped the wires into the connector, same results.

i cut all the J&S wires and reconnected the coils as they were before the J&S (mpi and turbo module are still there though) and still the same thing. it cranks but nothing happens. temp gauge is still all the way up

you checked all fuses?
if you unplugged the GND accidentally it will not damage all the things that you mentioned.
Make sure all your grounds are connected properly and check all the fuses. Also, sounds like you might have some wire not insulating properly and make sure you are not touching the wires therefore shorting the components.
I do not see how you could blow an ECU by removing the GND accidentally.
It will certainly shut your car off on the other hand since you do not have a closed circuit anymore. If the circuit is open no current will flow.

Hope it helps

YEah..defiantely check your fuse..If you reconnected the ground and nothing still...it sounds like your not getting power...It is possibble that the ground coming loose could have caused a fuse to blow...GO LOOK FOR A BAD FUSE.....then tell us what you find.

i will find the fuse in the box under the hood right?
and can i buy those at a regular store or i need to go to mazda to replace it?

yeah. there is also a fuse box on the driver side kick panel. any autoparts store should have em.

thanks alot guys.
i'll go a bit later when i go to pick up my gf from work. the car is ~30mins away from here =\

will i be able to tell if a fuse is blown just from looking at it or i'll need somekind of tester?

thanks alot guys =)

the little m or n in the middle of the fuse will be severed

That being the jagedd lines in the fuse itself, definatly able to tell by looking and grab some needle nose plyers to pull it out.

Bring the broken fuse to make sure you got the right amp to a parts store, shouldnt be too expensive at all, each fuse is around $1 to $5.

great thanks alot guys.

i really hope that's it ... i'm broke because of this car, i wouldnt be able to afford to replace anything else on the car anymore right now. i'd have to wait a month or two so i hope it's just a fuse

thank you for your help.
i will post later to let you guys know if i found anything

Don't sweat it. Things usually seem much worse than they are from this angle.

That being said, you're gonna feel like a million bucks when that car finially turns over and starts. :D

Disconnecting the ground wire shouldn't blow the J&S. Might cause the J&S to blow the coils, though.

The unit needs ground to turn the coils off.

Verify 12v to the unit (fuses).

And yessssssss you are right man, it does feel like a million bucks.

i guess i over-reacted again ... but for those of you that know a bit about my situation ... everything that couldve went wrong with the car happened so i kinda think the worse now whenever something happens.

I went back to the car a nd checked all the fuse like you guys told me and found out that the 10A engine fuse was dead. swapped it with the "Mirr Defr" one and voila! it works.

i REALLY hope this was the last thread of the genre that i EVER create.

i wana thank you guys, once again, for helping me through this ... as soon as i saw that the J&S' light wasnt flashing when the engine was cranking, that my avcr wouldnt turn on anymore and that i couldnt connect my laptop to the mpi (no comms) i thought everything blew up ..... i even started looking for used cars on the web lol (there's a nice speed6 for sale at my dealer, 3000km demo ... oh well my car is ok now so)

again thank you.

And also thanks John J&S for taking the time to reply here. i really appreciate it. I will reconnect the J&S whenever it stops raining (i reconnected the coils wires back to stock this morning) and hopefully it is ok =)

thanks guys !
