I broke something good today. Driving from a stop light in first gear and boom something broke and sounded like a box of rocks falling off my car. Tried to shift to second and made some scatching noises with some gas with no accel. The reason I think it is my clutch is bc I want it to be(its cheaper) but also bc recently when I slip in to first gear it would make scratching noises and now this. By the time I pulled over to a stop I went through the gears and nothing.

any ideas, I guess I will find out when I drop my trans tomarrow.

its probably the diff....does it just rev up in gear like its in neutral?

That's what happened to me.

It really sux.

definetly sounds like a blown diff! time for a quaife lsd (evil)

crap thats what I was afraid of

so how does that work anyways, the clutch is engaging but not transfering the power?

damn, any good places to get an lsd?

you really only have 2 options either get a quaife or buy a stock one from the dealer and weld it stronger.

with a blown diff its only spinning half the lsd so the spider gears arent being turned and you not going anywhere

well I took it apart all the guts to my trans are on the ground and when I took out the ring gear the lsd stayed. It was perfectly sheared in half. I got awsome pics of it. now time to wait on parts, probably going back to the stock one. thanks for the input, you all were right. At least I learned alot by taking the trans apart for my first time so when I need to do the clutch it wont be so bad.

I take it you're out of warranty?
no, actually I made a warranty claim. but I work at the stealer so I am working on it. I hope warranty doesn't kick it back bc then I will be paying for my own labor, and it's too late to turn back now bc the ticket is writen up and in the computer and the part is on the way.

Sure its not a tranny problem, Ive heard that sound when my tranny went boom boom, thats why im trying to be a lil more ofa looker than goers cuz our trannies are weak.

thanks for the info, but I am sure it is the diff bc my trans is laying in pieces on the floor and everything looks ok besides the diff being in 2 parts.

I am also trying to tighten up so exhaust parts but running into problems with breaking studs, well 2 to be exact but thats plenty for me.

So what's up with the diff's anyway. Did mazda just cheap out or is it due to the fact that the tranny is pushed beyond its means? Is it a good idea to get it welded or just spring for the quaife?
