I blew my motor today, topping the speedo out (stock car with ebay motors manual boost control and straight pipe) :( I hit 130 and the governer kicked in. Stopped, got out to check everything out and headed for home. A mile down the road, the engine blew!!! I want to know if a 2.0l from a normal mazda protege will work or a 626, without stripping the block. I want to transplant a whole engine. Whats the best thing to do??? I dont want to part it out!

Same motor but u need the thing from your original block for the turbo oil lines. Somebody clarify.

Op sorry that happened to you but make sure you get the windage tray and oil pan off your blown motor. Destinal I topped my car out the first day I got it and occasionally I do it now with no problems. Now with that being said I'll go do it tomorrow and my ride will burst into flames lol

sorry to hear about your car dcdirtrider.

does anyone know if a fuel cut defender would have prevented this from happening? Was the problem likely caused by the ECU detecting excessive boost and going into fuel cut?

I want to prevent this from happening to my car.

I would blame the MBC, the motor usually blows due to the ECU switching between open and closed loop which can make it run way rich or lean. It probably tried to maintain 14-15 AFRs while boosting higher than it should have. SSAFC and no boost controller might have saved that motor.

Any 2.0L FSDE motor will work, the newer the better. To hook up the turbo oil drain line you need the main bearing support plate (windage tray) from the old motor if it isn't damaged or you can just tap the oil pan on the new block. This is one of the most commonly asked questions.

taking out the windage tray... does s*** just fall out everywhere? is it actually holding stuff together? or is it kind of a discrete part like the oil pan?

Alright, thanks guys. I also want to make sure that the ECU will hook up to the normal protege engine. Are alll the connectors present on the normal protege 2.0l that the MSP uses? And what cars have the engine that will be transerable to the MSP? Is there any other modifications besides the windage plate that need to be done to the engine to make it usable on the MSP? And last and most important of all, should I just buy a normal protege engine and do the slight modifications to it or should i pay the extra money or wait the extra time to get a MSP motor? And will there be any problems using the normal protege engine on the MSP since it is boosted and will the MSP tranny link to the normal protege engine without an extra parts or modification.

P.S. Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I do this right before spending over $1500 doing this. And I want to make sure my MSP gets the best treatment ;)
