Help a total newbie which is very confused

As you can tell by my previous post I am shopping around for sound components. I am not the type to just ask questions, I do allot of research on my own then once I have a good idea of what I want I will post for advice just to make sure I am buying a good product.

Now more research I do, more confused I am becoming! (bang) Can someone help me setup a basic system? I am not looking for something that will shatter all the windows in my car; I am looking for something that sound good. I listen to all types of music and want a good sounding system.

So what do I need?

1-Headunit (going with alpine, model TBD)

2-Front speakers (infinity)

3-Rear Spreakers (infinity)

4-Amp (no Clue)

5-Sub? (Do I need one?)

So basically if someone could explain what I need and maybe recommend some items I will do the rest. Once I have a setup that fits my budget I will repost for your opinions.

Thanks guys you have all been very helpful so far..

Honestly the person you need to speak to on this forum is 1rst MP3 in NH.
PM him if he doesnt see this thread.
He really knows his stuff with aftermarket components and such.

maybe you could give us some general guidlines on the budget... it would narrow the choices down a lot.

It would really help if I knew you budget. The more you spend the better it will spend. Iwill reccomend stuff right to the edge of your budget and prob talk you into going just a tad over. hehe.. that is how it always works. you always spend more than you plan.

3 - save money.. use the stock rear speakers or none at all
5. if you want a nice full sound yes you want a sub. you are not wating to spend alot of money therefore the fronts you get prob wont reproduce much bass. so you will be missing all the low notes in rap, the bass drum, and some bass guitar stuff.

I agree.. you dont need to spend money on rear speakers... spend the money on some high quality front components. like Focal K2powers, Morel, or Dynaudio

If he wants to spend that much he will be set. I hope so. I am a huge focal fan. I heard the k2powers were awesome. I want to hear.. I am jealous.

oh yeah.. and you can check the 1000 audio challenge in the sticky section. those are systems that were set up below 1000.

he wants to spend that kind of money, considering he WAS ;) planing on buying infinity front and rears... I found some K2P's for $400 on ebay from a reputable selling company. so its not far fetched. :D

Total Budget aprx 1500.00 CDN, that is what I put aside for the sound componets. Please keep in mind the "not looking for something to shatter all windows in my car" statement. hehe

RyanJayG nice car!

Sorry what is that USD. not from canada eh.. sorry a-boot that.

I know you dont want to shatter the winders.. but if you want it to sound good then I can help ya out.

thanks... if that is your plan, then go cheaper on the sub, and spend more on the components. the component speakers I mentioned are ultimate sound quality... though they can play very loud too.

I thinking around $250 for HU, $400 for the focal's, 'bout $100 for a 10" sub, $100 sub box. $75 for incidentals/wires, $200 for 4-ch amp, bridge rear channel for sub.

= $1125 US

OMG.. f** just typed all kinds of stuff and lost it.. that sucks.. well here we go again.. better apprechiate this..

fronts like 300 - 400 retail. .good stuff though.. I would not get less than this

Wow...that's some crazy suggestions, Parksy! Busy much?! :D Lemme think about this: You have 1200$ to spend approximately. Let's set you a budget for each component you'll need.

Front Components: 200-400$
Sub: 100-200$
Sub Amp: 200$
Comp Amp: 200$
Wiring: 50$
Sub Box: 100$
HU: 200-300$

Now...you can go up or down on these to add a HU...if you go lower on the sub for instance.

Now...on to my suggestions:

Amp: JL e4300 or Eclipse EA3422 (200-300$). Check woofersetc.com, who claim they will hold up the warranty on the stuff that they sell for the JL. The Eclipse, is harder to find, but I'm sure they have dealers in CAN. Both amps will provide you with a good amount of power for front components and a small sub.

Sub: Normally I'd suggest Elemental Designs' Kx series. They're currently on backorder, and eD is in a state of flux with their designs. Whatever they come out with will be excellent, so if you're waiting a little while (like a month) then look into an eD 10Kx.14. Otherwise I recommend the Image Dynamics ID 10 v.3 Dual 2 ohm which can be had for 100$ at sounddomain. Either will do you well. For a little more money there's also the JL 10w3v2. You can also look at Adire Audio and Resonant Engineering for similar products.

Sub Box: Make a ported box tuned to 28hz or have a friend make one for you. Otherwise you have to go to a shop, and that'll be expensive. You can check out eD's website for a box design that'll work for both the eD Kx and the ID 10. Here's the link.

Wiring: Knukonceptz, again...great prices, great product.

Components: this is the hard part. you need to listen to a bunch of stuff in your price range to determine this. I suggest finding a place to listen to the Kodas, ID Chameleons, CDTs, JL VRs, Boston Acoustics Rallys, Alpine Type R, and Kicker Resolution and K series. Thoses will all slide into your price group...but pick the one you like best, no matter what the price. That's always my suggestion.

HU: You can avoid replacing this if you are happy with the feature set. You'd just need a good LOC, which does cost money. However, if you want the features of an aftermarket HU then look at Alpine, Pioneer (and premier), and Eclipse. Alpine and Pio make the best bang for the buck stuff, though.

Hope that helps...this will not be a really loud system. The sub will just be a blended thump, not an overwhelming thudding. You will feel it, hear it, and it will be accurate. But even my set-up with 275-300W will not be felt too far out of my car. Really...I think this is a nice system setup for just over 1000$ US.

i say bostons

i just picked up a pair of proseries 6.5 components for $300. they sound awesome. their speakers are reduced because the new line is coming out

The only problem with pros is that you need 75W+ to make them fill out. They're also pretty expensive...combined I thought it might push them out of his price range...but with some finagling, he could probably get it to work.

BTW...APC rules. If you get a chance, go see them in concert. Extremely moving.

Thanks for the input guys, now time to start shopping around and see what I can find at local audio shops in my area. I will be sure to repost before buying anything.

One more thing, would the dash kit from the MSP fit a P5? or is there something better?

Again I do apperciate all the help. (bow)

The MSP dash kit will work, but it is expensive.. like around $75. so maybe something else.
