Hello all,

Just picked mine up my new MS3 and found this site. I had an SVT Focus and was worried I would miss it, but I love this car. I'm trying to be good and break it in easy.

Anyway, I've noticed an oil smell when I hit the gas a little bit. So I check the oil and it is 1/4" past the max level. Anyone have this issue straight from the factory?

I wouldn't worry too much about the smell. Most new cars have a funky smell for the first couple hundered miles anyway, unless someone test drove the crap out of it before you got it. But if you ordered one and picked it up the day it got there then there should be no issue. Congrats on the car!

Thanks. I picked up the car the day it got there and it only had 6 miles on the odo, so I don't think it got beat on too bad. That day there was only one sales guy there and he was the manager and not a speed freak.

I was also wondering if anyone else had their car delivered with too much oil.

Mine is also over max as is another poster's on another forum. I haven't smelled oil, but there are loads of other funky smells. Mind you nothing compared to the MS6. I really thought there was something wrong there, but they went away after about one month (!).

On my first test drive, there was an odd smell. It's pretty much gone away, but I've revved to redline a few times and really heated the engine up a bit.

Is anyone else going to go DIRECTLY to synthetic oil on the first oil change?

I worked at a Mazda dealer a few years back and a lot of the new cars had that smell. I wouldn't worry about a thing. Congrats on the purchase I bet it's a big improvement over the SVT.

SVT focus was a mean little pocket rocket. Almost like the SRT4 of it's day. Wicked little motor, crappy interior. I had a soft spot for them.

congrats on the MS3 purchase. I would not worry too much about the smell. It should dissapate over the next few days. PICS????

I know most people mean it as a joke....

But I must add that there were absolutely no MS3's on the Cougar Ace. There were a ton of regular 3's on it though...

Oh, yeah? How do you explain the white, crystaline stuff on the underside of my car and on the backs of the wheels.

Just kidding!

You have to stop driving near meth labs, my friend.

Hey Dave, welcome to the forums!

I think these guys are right the oil smell should probably fade away once the car is more broken in. Good luck breaking it in gently though...NOT easy to do!

I plan on going to Royal Purple. I used it in my SVT Focus and the difference in valve train noise compared to even Mobile One was pronounced.

I know the MS3 is a better car in many ways, but it was ALWAYS fun to keep up with BMW, Vipers, Vettes, etc in the curves (and watch them go bye-bye on the straights). I hope the MS3 is as good in the curves even though it's a few hundred pounds more. I KNOW the straights will be a lot more fun(omg)

I'll post some pics over the weekend....

Jbiird,

Thanks for the welcome. Looks like I found a good place for info, etc. And, you're right - it's killing me not to floor it.

I will have the first oil change at 1000km. Directly to Mobil 1 at that time.
