Hello everyone - new to forum - very interested in 2010 MS3

Just took the measurements. From the rear of the center console to the center of the seat back is ~24". The width from door armrest to door armrest is just over 51".

Do you have a rear-facing baby seat? Is that why it may not fit in the center? I have no problems with our front-facing seat placed in the center. My son sometimes puts his feet on the back of the center console (not for long, because I tell him to take them off), but otherwise he's got enough legroom.

I moved both babyseats from the Mazda5 to the Mazdaspeed3 tonight just so we could all go for a spin in the car. We have two forward-facing Recaro Young-Sport seats. My one and three year olds had plenty of room. I am 6'2 and had the seat adjusted where I like it. My daughter was behind me (the 3 year old) and she was fine. Not tons of extra leg room, but fine. She's a large 3 year old too...

Boost put both kids to sleep too.

I don't think most infant, rear facing seats would fit behind me in the mazdaspeed though. It would be fine in the center, or possibly behind the passenger seat (my wife isn't as tall as me).

As for the seat, I have the speed3 a few clicks from all the way back. It goes back much further than I need. I have the Mazda5 only one click from all the way back. And my miata, well...it's pinned as far back as it can go!

Thanks!

All I can say, I drove one old Miata one time... might have been one of the first ones... it was absolutely ridiculous... I felt like I was driving my old pedal car fire engine from when I was 5 years old. I did not fit in it at all, it was almost comical... I never knew that a car could legally be so tiny... perhaps the newer ones are a little bigger...

I'm 6'2 but I'm not very wide...dunno if that pertains. I also have a slight seat de-foam to give me a little more headroom. I barely, barely fit. But it's just right...like a glove. I can't have my wallet in my back pocket though, because then I hit the roof. Seriously. I live in San Diego so I can have the top down year round anyway. :D

I'm 5'9", 160lbs, and seem like I was made to fit in a Miata. :) Which is one reason I will own another one someday. I'd love to have one as a second car, as a weekend driver and/or track/autox car.

Nothing I've driven handles better, although the MS3 is fantastic in its own right. I still can't quite get used to the FWD...RWD is just far too much fun.

you just have to drive FWD differently. It's still fun. But I like to have at least one RWD car in my stable so I can hang the tail out on power when I'm in the mood.

It's also really nice to have a limited slip diff in a FWD car. Makes getting the power down so much easier than in open-diff cars. LSD is a must have in ANY of my fun cars.

Well, I am 6'1" and there was no way for me to fit my sons rear facing seat in the middle of the back seat. Not a chance. Not even with the CX7 we had at the time. Simply not enough room for my long legs to have the seat where I needed it and that rear facing seat. Also, in my car I have the Recaro child booster as well and my 2 year old sons feet touch the seat back with little effort. I have to move the seat pretty far forward so there is no chance of him kicking. Sadly, for as high as the child seat puts him he ends up kicking the back of the headrest. I dread the day we have another child and I some how have to figure out how to get two seats back there with them in them. No thanks. I am a stay at home dad so the wife will be giving up her Mazda5 whether she likes it or not at that rate...

DailyDriver, I havent posted on this board in probably more than a year now but I just read through this thread and thought I should comment. While I don't own a 2010 MS3, I'm a former mazdaspeed protege owner and have had a similar experience with a turbo-4 vs american v8. The MSP was my first car - I bought it a few months before I turned 16 which is about 2 and a half years ago now. I had driven stick before once in my life and I hopped in and drove it home with no problems - this should have been a sign to me from the get go. I owned that car for around a year and from day 1, it was simply a very friendly, DRIVER ORIENTED vehicle. I was so sick of driving my mom's minivan and my dad's truck with my permit that the 5 speed turbo-ness of the MSP were just what I needed. Obviously, with 170hp, the car wasn't a rocket but at 2900 pounds, the handling was incredible. My own stupidity and lack of experience eventually bit me in the ass one day but I spent hours practicing on backroads and getting to know how the car handled and I will tell you, mazdaspeed knows what the hell they're doing - the thing was on rails and you ALWAYS knew if you were gonna get throttle-lift oversteer when you let off or if you needed to power through a turn. extremely communicative car.

Well, anyway, I had always wanted an SS camaro but my pops had said it was too fast - I nagged my parents for the last like 3 months of MSP ownership to let me sell it and pay the difference for an LS1 camaro. I almost had my dad sold on it and I raced to sell my MSP while his good mood held out. Eventually, he came to his senses, AFTER the car was sold unfortunately, and said an LS1 was too fast - 310+rwhp wasn't what he thought I needed as a barely 17 year old driver. granted I had never been in any kind of accident or gotten any sort of ticket, so I managed to convince him (BARELY) on the slower 99-04 mustang GT. But after driving such a limited edition car for so long (the msp), i coudlnt drive such a common car so I found a 2001 Bullitt for sale in GA and jumped on it. That car was BEAUTIFULLY kept and had a lot of really nice mods. You mentioned your wife's being sluggish and lazy feeling and I would agree - the stock GT's (even the new 05-09's) feel that way. Mine however was lowered 2 inches on eibach sportlines + the upgraded suspension that comes with the bullitt package. The interior was nice black leather and the previous owner had installed a lot of custom aluminum trim but it looked really nice and not gaudy at all. It had a CAI, twin throttle body from the cobra, pullies, and i added a catless prochamber and mac exhaust to it. It sounded mean, looked mean, and since it was a 5 speed manual with a short throw shifter (I'll never again drive a car without a short throw kit), it was a LOT of fun to drive.

At this point, I was so enamored to american muscle cars and the speed increase over the MSP that I swore off buying another "ricer". Now, heres the point of my story. I recently had to sell my bullitt before i went off to college, and while I miss it dearly, I'm also missing my MSP equally as much if not more. Why? because honestly, the MSP was such a COMPLETE package. The stereo sounded amazing (bose in the MS3), the handling was incredible (much better than the mustang even with its suspension upgrades), you could heel and toe it (impossible in the bullitt), and you generally felt more "involved" with the driving experience. I don't know how after all my years of lusting after camaros and mustangs and wanting nothing more than v8 rumble and then settling on the "little" MSP and 170 hp turbo 4 that I've come back to mazda to look for my next car but they managed to sell me on something. Mazdaspeed knows how to make a desirable limited edition production car becuase they create the whole package - good looks, good stereo, amazing handling, adequate power, and a level of driver involvement that makes you FEEL like you're much more in tune with the road than every other driver around you. If you can, I HIGHLY encourage you to go and drive the MS3 for another half hour or so - run it through the gears, take it through a few sweepers - get to see the car in its element - after you experience these things it has to offer, you'll appreciate the practicality of it all the more. OH! and i almost forgot to qualify myself, I HAVE driven an MS3 before, a 2008 I believe it was.. Whatever year the Black Mica comes in...

I swore that my next car (the next one I can buy has no parentally-imposed horsepower restrictions) would be a cammed GTO or WS6 and that I wouldn't go back to the "ricer" scene but the more I remember my MSP and look at the MS3, I see it as less of a ricer and more of a driver-involved race-car that presents a more total package.... Who knows, just my 2 cents coming from someone who loves muscle cars but can't resist the allure of the MS3!

P.S. I wouldn't be swayed in the direction of the STi, do a couple youtube searches and youll see that the STi is by no means faster than the MS3 - MS3's with a few mods pull on stock STi's all day from a roll and the newest hatchback STi is slower than some of the older ones... They're mighty expensive for what you get and IMO the interior doesnt even compare with that of the MS3...

I have a forward facing seat in the rear of my wife's Mustang GT, my 20-month year old can surely kick the back of the front passenger seat, and that's with the front passenger seat ALL the way forward, and angled up as far as possible. She is not able to extend her legs without touching the front seat back. My solution... I just take her shoes off... and she usually just keeps her legs folded in anyway. It's a tight fit for her, but it works, at least for "shorter" trips (like a half hour or so). Per my measurements, she'll have a bit more room in an MS3.

Rear facing seats are a b*tch for sure. I was even having problems fitting this in my Highlander. I switched from rear facing to forward facing as soon as I could. Can't remember how long I had to run the rear facer though... maybe a year? So, it's just one year of "headache", not the end of the world I guess.... goes fast... that's what they tell me... I'd say it IS true though.

Well hopefully your year is up before they change that rear facing law again. I know it is in reveiw and the medical concensus is 2 years to forward facing. We hope to have a second child soon so I am hoping that doesnt go through as well. When I was born we didnt even have car seats and only lap belts that you werent required to wear. LOL...

I buy my cars on a whim. Even the ones I like, I don't end up keeping very long. It's a disease I tell ya. A disease!

i have even bought cars before ever test-driving them. Case in point: 2007 Honda fit (which went on sale early in 2006). We pre-ordered it to avoid the markups I saw coming. I was right. Car was fun but we outgrew it.

The only thing that saves me from total financial destruction in my illness is I tend to be able to get cars relatively cheaply, and tend to be able to sell them for relatively high amounts. I don't trade cars in either.

I think going from a Vette to a Mazda5 would be cruel...lol

Whaaaat? (lol2) (lol2)

OK OK, that is true to some degree, agree, but especially if you have not owned nor driven one ;)

FWIW I've been lurking around this area because I want an MS3 too (just like many other Mazda5/MS3 owners I see above :)), but there is no way I can trade one of my people movers now. Wife and I need to share kids chores so we need 2 similar cars, we have decent winters in my neck of the woods and with a tight garage the sliding doors beat any SUV around. Add two 2nd row captain chairs and that beats any other car for rear facing child seats installations with comfort while driving.

Need for speed? Not now, especially with the cargo I carry. Need for fun-to-drive and manual tranny? Yes, and you can get that with the

Once both seats can go forward facing (or booster seats) then an MS3 can come handy.

But anyway, I'm biased, yet reminded me of this article. Check what the guys drives besides the Mazda5, and he has no children.

I've been in one, and I definitely like the Mazda 5! i just don't know if I could handle the lack of power. Immature, but hey..I respect the fact you guys gotta do what you gotta do.

Your day will come Mr. Mike... LOL... I am in a situation now where I could likely need to sell the speed and just keep the family mover Mazda5.
