heated mirrors on touring

off topic sorta but I have a GT model and am wondering how do I activate my heated mirrors? someone mentioned you turn on the rear defrosters to get the mirrors heated. is that correct?

Yes JTNY, that activates the relay to send power to the heated mirrors as well. The tourings have the same relay, so if we can figure out how to activate/plug in the right wires, we should have them as well.

considering the vehicle's under warranty i'm not willing to be the first to try this (turn off javascript):

first thing would be to see if the wire harness is there. the most benign way to do this would be safest since taking it apart and putting it back together looks to take a lot of time and work.

puddle.jumper, I am with you on that part, especially removing the glass from the mirror. Perhaps if they ever issue a TSB on the mirror shake, I will see if they will "show" me the repair that they will be doing.....

did anyone remove the mirror part and see if this cable is behind it?

mirror1.webp

I'll give it a try tomorrow.

if that mirror heater connector is not there, then is the heating element still behind it? (if everyone posted saying is the same mirror Part number for all trim level then it should) then for those that wants heated mirrors need to run those 2 wires and find out where it connects/splice it to.

if opening up the mirror is too tough, you may want to verify the other end of the wire harness is there, wherever it leads to.

has anybody checked on this yet? I mean 30k for a car with no mirror defrost kinda sucks. Especially in montana!!! Would love if it is installed and I just have to plug a wire in. Also are there any other features that are easy to get on the touring that come with it but is not advertised? I would love to know all the things that I can plug in a fuse and get something for free

Be the first then. Someones gotta do it why not you?

OK... HELP --- the dealer window sticker spec sheets actually has side view mirrors as heated (we have a Grand Touring model/no Tech option) but I am going crazy finding details how it gets activated??? Is it automatic every time I engage the rear view defroster? I went through the manual and nowhere did I find info (then again I was told I need glasses to read!)... any ideas??? Thanks!

Yes, via rear window defroster switch.

(see owners manual page 4-51)

had the door panels off for speaker install, notice one wire is missing from the harness to the mirror, is the supply line R/L, I didn't remove the mirror but by looking from the back side of it, I cannot see any wires or heating element.

so for this to work need to make sure the mirror is the same for models with and without heated mirror and run that extra wire from door harness to mirror +, mirror - can splice into ground.

Any further work on this pt00323i? Anyone (who owns a Sport model)?

no, I'm waiting for my dealer to fix the vibrating driver mirror (parts back ordered), when I'll go in I'll ask them if I can take a look behind the mirror and see if there is a heating element. if so then I just need to run that extra wire to it and a return wire to ground.

Do they take apart the mirror for the vibrating mirror fix? They made it seem like they only take apart the door panel. If they do take it apart I'll ask to watch and report back, otherwise I'm going to go do some shopping while they fix it.

Sounds cool. I'm on the fence about the vibration issue...

The more reports, the better I say!

Yes panel comes off new mirror assembly and a metal bracket inside. Not an easy fix....see my other post under TSB mirror shake for pics of the new bracket and mirror housing.

The kit Mazda send is missing a clamp plate so dealer is making one.

Also took pics of mirror Assm no heating wires or element so no heating mirror :( ill post them later

So if you really want heated mirrors you need to buy touring mirrors they have heating element in them, run 2 wires from door panel harness to mirror assembly, connect to mirror then done. I think those mirrors probably run 50 ea.

see attached pics, one with heating element is from CX9, but you get the point. Dealer did say they have 3 types of mirrors for CX5, regular, shown in picture, Backup monitor? the one with sensor, and heated ones. note there are no wires in there so you need to run 2 wires from door harness to mirror housing assembly. Maybe a future mod. for now.

I revisited this again today after driving with fogged side mirrors and wishing they were heated.

Here's the part numbers (for heated mirrors):

Left side, No BSM: KD3-769-1G7B $21.98
Right side, No BSM: KD3-769-1G1B $21.05

Left, W/BSM: KE4-069-1G7B $53.36
Right, W/BSM: KE4-069-1G1B $53.36

In order to do the mod properly, the type of connector pin will need to be determined. I'm on the fence about reporting the mirror shake and having it swapped, though I probably will before too long, not sure how this will affect my feelings for heated mirrors though.

So, to see if I have this straight, if I have a touring model with the sensor and would like to have heated mirrors, all I need to do is run 2 wires from door panel harness to the mirror assembly and connect them? I'm having trouble believing it is that easy.
