heat shield on top of muffler

Does it serve any purpose besides rattling its ass off? i foamed out my trunk lid to get rid of the noise and come to find out it is that dam shield, a few rivits hold it in , if it isnt important i am gonna put my car on the lift and remove them and get ride of the crap

heat shields always end up rattling, and their pourpose is right in their name, its to block heat. if u don't mind the floor getting hotter u should be fine removing it.

ill just take it off, its under the trunk so it wont have a problem with heat.. i was thinkin of taken it off and just putting a sheet of dynamat to block the heat.
