Heat coming under or near steering column

I have a high amount of heat coming from near or under the steering column and I'm smelling what I think is exhaust. I recently had an ACT Street clutch kit installed and this heat + exhaust smell never occurred before. I spoke with my shop and they asked me to talk with Mazda.

Has this happened to anyone else?

try checking the donut gasket in the exhaust manifold, cheap fix if it is the problem, about $45 from the dealership
