Headlight help

So here recently when I start my car up and turn on my headlights, only one headlight (sometimes neither one) comes on. I can let the car run for roughly 15 seconds and then I can give the headlight(s) a firm "love tap" and the light will come on. Is this the beginning stages of my headlight(s) going out or is there some other kind of issue goin on here? If they do end up going out completely, what kind of headlights look good that aren't OEM?

Resurrecting an old thread here, but did you ever get this fixed? Mine were doing that too. Fixed it with a cheap part from the Mazda dealership and haven't had a problem since.

Usually with the 3 and Protege5 the black plastic adapter/connector for the low-beam headlight bulb corrodes and melts. You just have to buy a new one, I used to replace them all the time. Remove the bulb and separate the adapter to inspect the brass contacts.
