alright, i had an in dash dvd player and flip out screen but i hardly ever used it, it was more for the benefit of my passengers...so i got rid of that and am back to the stock p5 unit....now i want to get a head unit that can play mp3's and is sirius ready....i also want a motorized face, i was thinking why not just get the same hu that is in the msp's....i have seen a couple people who have had problems with theirs so i wanted to know if these are problems everyones experiencing...i figured i can prob. find one on here for pretty cheap so any input or alternatives would be greatly appreciated

Yes, MANY people have complained about them. They are generally faulty products. I'll sell you mine, but you'll have to pay someone to get it fixed.

I think he means you will have to pay to have it fixed when it breaks as opposed to MSP guys getting them replaced under warranty.

oh....ic well dont have the money to buy right now either way

Don't get the model that is in the MSP's. It was locking up for a while, also CD's would sometimes not eject all the way. Finally it locked up last week, but it won't reset this time. Gotta go to the dealer when I get some spare time. The interface is crazy confusing too IMO. Don't know if all head units with such functionality are that complicated, but that thing is a b****. I can't stand going through and editing all the settings whenever I have my ECU reset.

Make a quick battery back up (relay and and a 9V battery should be sufficient for storing memory). Relay switches to 9V + when there is no battery power, and ground the negative.(thought)

(mswerd) I've been considering doing this for a while, just been lazy about it. I've always got some more urgent crap to do with my car, like getting rid of strange rattlings noises, installing other parts, blah blah blah. I work all day, and only have time to mess with my car at night. It really deters me from doing anything with it most of the time. I live in an apartment complex, so nice nicely lit garage for me.

I might also try to hook it up in parallel with the odometer, if I can figure out the correct wire. I don't like how the trip miles are reset when the battery is disconnected, cause I like to keep tabs on my gas mileage.

I may do it and put up a quick how-to this summer. There is no way I can do it during school, these 20 EE credits keep me way to busy to do anything with my car.

Sorry for the thread jack but I'll be quick.

FB's sig is taken from two different threads, to manipulate those in this community, and clearly make me look bad. Not Appreciated FB

Most of the time this is caused by the pins in the back of the faceplate not correctly lining up with with the headunit. If you take off your faceplate you will see two metal tabs to the right and left side of the headunit. Those tabs are what holds the faceplate into the unit. Over time they wear down and don't hold the faceplat ein as tightly. To fix this bend the insides of the tabs out a little so they hold the faceplate in a little tighter. This won't solve every issue with the radio, but it's worked twice for me.
