Okay I replaced my stock shift knob with a tmw short shifter and when I was installing it I notice that the piece that holds the shifter is place was broke. Its a white plasic piece, that holds the shifter on the ball joint. The problem is I can't find a part number for it. And right know it is glued together. Can anyone help me?

You could ghetto fix it by putting a lot of elastic bands around it, but those will eventually dry up. The other fix is lots of tape on the inside to create your own ring...other then that, something tells me the dealership doesn't sell that part separately seeing as I was looking for another part for my shifter last year, and needed to buy the entire assembly for an uber cheap piece of plastic.

I just got done taking my short shift off and cutting in down and re tapping it lower yet. Mine apearently broke too since i put it in so i glued it and shaved it a got various o-rings (i got the unlimited supply and a spliceing kit) and put them down in there and packed it with triple guard (water proof grease used for outboard engine hubs). It actually shifts better than ever. I just put two small ones around the top and bottom and acked like 5 inbetween those two spacers and packed it with grease. it is all sealed up and the only hard part was getting the snap ring back in but that was solved with a large socket slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the holder. I media blasted all of my parts and powder coated them. Looks and shifts amazing. The only thing i realized was that pin in the shift linkage to the tranny is a pin and not a bolt for a reason. A blot hit the stationary arm. But other than that it was a easy fix. Just get some of that grease at your local boat shop and there you go. it is the best grease ever.
