Having problems with MP3 CDs......

I have recorded a couple of MP3 CDs now, and they play, but without fail, they will stop on a song or two, maybe just briefly, or for several seconds, then resume. I noticed on a couple of songs on CD-Rs that I burned previously, the music will stop, there might be a pause, it will begin playing again, then it will do it over again. Very frustrating! I have had no problems with regular CDs, however. They seem fine - so far.

Anyone else have any problems with MP3s or CD-Rs? Thanks!

well it takes longer to read and MP3 file if you skip just one song ahead it will go right to it but if you go from track 5 to track 105 its going to take a min to catch up and find the track and start playing it. From what I understand this is normal

.....Thanks for the reply. This occurs while the song is playing, not while forwarding to the next track.

ohhhh ok well mine doesnt do that......ummmm sorry i dont know much else

And I got the shitter of the two mp3 players in the MP3

Does it always happen in the same songs at the same place (i.e. could it be a small scratch) or is it more random?

It's happening in the same places. And; these are brand new
CD-Rs (Sony). I'm checking one of these MP3s out on my home DVD / MP3 player right now, and I don't notice any problems - yet.
I re-recorded one of them in 'Disc at Once' mode to see if there is any difference. I will see what happens. This is my first experience with MP3 files.

perhaps you are burning them too fast? what speed is the media rated at? i only have 16X discs, so I cant burn them at the 48X speed my Lite On can do. try burning them at a slower speed.

I re-recorded this MP3 CD at 12x (16x before). It was fine until it reached track 9, then it stopped. I finally got it to track 10, and all is well again. We tried it on a friend's Aiwa deck in his car, and it played fine. 'pisses me off!!:bs:

I am going over to Best Buy at lunch, and see how it plays on some of their Kenwood's. I might redo the entire download, and re-burn and see if that helps.

I am currently using 80min. Sony CD-Rs. I might switch to a 74min CD (different brand) - if nothing else works.

Here are some tips

Make sure you use CDRs and not CDRWs. Also I don't think 74min CDs will make a difference. I don't think it will help your problem but here's a tip that will speed things up in general. Be sure to put all of your songs into folders. If you just dump 100 songs into the root directory of the CD it will take a long time for the tracks to change. Also, try burning at like 4x just to see if it helps. I know for video applications I never burn faster than 4x. Hope this might be helpful...

thanks.. Yes; I'm using CD-Rs. I also burned this one 'Disc-at-Once' thinking that might help. It might (track 9) be the only 'problem' track on the CD - but still quite frustrating, to be sure. Tonight, I'm going to retry at 4x, and I might (to save time) reload the entire 'Rippingtons' CD collection, and delete what I now have tried (3 times!!). Whatever happens; if it's a problem with the Kenwood, I'm sure Mazda will make good. Their a great car company. I'm still grinnin'!!! (just a bit frustrated)

If you're downloading MP3s you may be running into a bit rate issue. If a MP3 is ripped at a variable bit rate (oddball bitrate) the Kenwood head unit may not be able to handle it. My Z919 runs into that issue. I believe the Z919 manual recommended a 128 bit rate but I forget exactly. I found that it played more bit rates than just 128 but I tried some weird ones too and my system would just hang. I had to Ctrl+Alt+Del to get back on track. ;)

I've only used CDRW's. No troubles. Heck, their even 2-3 yr old Maxells. I always try to get bitrate of 192( just sounds a lot better), and I rarely use 128 ( sounds like crap)

Only times I've ever had songs stop, skip etc at mid song was:

1. Scratch on CD
2. Corrupted MP3 to begin with - Check original
3. Finger print or dirt on CD

That bitrate idea that For_mica had makes sense too, but i don't think I've ever seen it.

Cheers!

Make sure you are using the right burning software. I was using hotburn and it wouldn read at all. I called Kenwood about it when I owned my mp3 and they said they only test there equipment using easy cd creator software. So I used that and have never had a problem on my mp3 or now on my msp.

I'm using Roxio EZ Creator Platinum, and I have slowed the speed down to 4X. All seems fine, so far with my latest burn.

Interesting note: I did go over to Best Buy yesterday and I played that CD that had the problem track, in a Kenwood 919 like in our MSP. At first, it did stop, then it was fine. I tried it in two of those decks. I then went back to the car, and it played fine. Well; I heard MP3s are sometimes finicky. We will see what happens.
