GTS Celica vs. MSP

drivers race. the first year or 2 of the new body style were faster than they are now because of the rev limiter. yes they do have 180 HP...but no torque. i like havin some torque...in any gear. still a drivers race...but the GTS would have the edge if it was the first year or so of production.

haha ive tried racing a 200? GTS, i so lost, but it was fun tryin. they arnt as fast as i thought they were. but the new Lotus Elise with the GTS motor that just came over seas, now those hall ass.

I race with my friends GTS all the time.
Last nigh we raced up to 140MPH (of course it was my car that reached that speed faster)
I hitted the governor or whatever is called, like 5 times.
My car has a lot of torque and when he was WOT @ any speed, my car was able to catch him with only 3/4 of gas pedal on...of course 7psi already boosting

I have raced both cars. I own both cars. Why would I care if the GT-S was faster? Has anyone run 14.9 stock? If not then my Gt-S stock for stock is faster then and stock msp? Both are great cars and its nice to have a turbo and I car that screams to 8400 rpms. And yes the 2000 and 2001 are the fastest models.

seriously....a trd exhaust at 8200 rpm on a gts doing a 100+mph flyby....that just sounds badass :D i only wish i could rev that high =(

yes the gts is a nice car...

I like a lot, very much!!!! The transition of the vtec is addictive and it runs nice high end.

but the lack of torque makes this car an easy target against a turbo

An I dont believe it can do 14.9 stock....what was your trap speed.

Seem's you like to ignore the Post i posted. Lawerence ran a 14.9@92.85mph stock in his Black mica MSP.

Actually it's VVT-i :D

My cousin has an RSX Type-S(turbo now), but before his turbo his car was faster than his girlfriends 2000 GT-S(I don't think she is a very good driver though). I am going to race her sometime(looks like I'm going to have to wait til next year...damn winter), if I lose I am going to shoot myself because she will never let me hear the end of it.

Actually its VVTL-I in the GT-S and VVT-I in the GT model.

I drove a 6 speed GT-S from march 2000 until 3 weeks ago when I tarded it in on the MSP. I ran a 14.95@92.53 in the celica stock. I have not taken the MSP to the track yet. The celica had more top end but the MSP out hadles it. again stock vs' stock. give the Celi all the MSP's goodies and the tables may turn but the MSP has the advantage of coming w/ turbo so the long term $$$ to build should be less. My choice to trade the celi was finacial and the MSP is a far more rare car to have. my .02

14.9@93
If you dont believe it can do 14.9 stock the go see some slips and www.newcelica.org and if your a magazine racer check scc they ran 14.9 on a 2001. The car is a great car if you drove it you would understand. Like I said I have no reason to make it up I DRIVE BOTH CARS right now. Also look what I run with just and AEM CAI, TRD exhast, ACT Clutch and Fidamza flywheel. Also since I ran 14.9 stock there is 1 msp that is as fast as mine stock. Many other people have ran 14.9 in the GTS than the MSP I know this as a fact.

may be a dumb arguement to make, but suppose there was 30,000 produced, we'd probably have another hundred members on this board that could have pulled a high 14 stock. But there wasn't so **** it. Hell if there were 30,000 made there would be 100 in the 13's buy now. Nice times btw

yeah..... what he said!(werd)

the 6-spd GTS is a fun car to drive(my mom owns one :) ) but i'd rather have a MSP. the GTS w/ Kumho 712s stuck well, but still didn't have that driver's car feel to it. i def think my DX w/ my few suspension mods & tires out handled the GTS by a long shot.

the GTS was fun to whind out, just like a b-series honda motor, but the atleast you can enjoy vtec, whereas the VVTL-I is short lived. SuperSpud and I ran a few times from a 30roll in 2nd and I may have pulled on top end, but by the end of my 3rd he was still even. maybe he would have pulled me later, maybe i would have pulled him, it was on the street and i didn't care to find out.

btw-the MSP's TQ would jump on me and by the time i hit VVTL-I i'd pull me even, and then we'd stay even.

one night he was easily pulilng me on the hwy though(great turbo weather)

I see your point and thanx for the compliment BTW.

i'm still waiting to see time slips. its all :bs: until that point. and even then i still hold some doubt.

I have been up against several Gt-s.....lets just say I've never seen the back end of one. Never been down the track against one so I don't know baout full 1/4 with one. the TQ #s explain it all.

haha hey mark make sure you bring that beast around next time your home...lets play

you have a RACECAR!! i am not worthy.

the last time i drove it i got a ticket(a BIG one)... i've ditched straight lines for the sake of insurance. i'll tell you all about it this decemeber if we meet up :)

I had a 2000 Celica GT-S. Went to the track for my very first time drag racing and ran a low 14.9. I only had a TRD axel back exhaust.

My main concern with that car was how it had to be rev'ed to the moon to keep it in VVTL-I territory for the next up shift to land above 6,000RPM. You had to put the needle slightly into redline to do this. Anything below 6K and it felt very sluggish.

Honestly...and I am not saying this cause I own the Mazda now...but I have a lot more fun driving my P5 even though it is down some 50HP to the Celica. Toyota as a company needs to step up their game Sport Car wise. They need a flag ship sport car again and bumping up the Celica's displasement to like 2.2L with the VVTL-I would be fun! ;)
