Yeah the intake is not essential. Plus it shouldn't matter if you are sucking in hot air because the intercooler takes care of that problem.

Now wouldn't starting with a colder temp air mean that colder air would be getting through the system thus equalling a colder temp going into the motor?
Or does it not matter because the turbo heats the air up to certain temp reguardless what it starts off as. Much like the concept that water boils at 212F no matter the size of the pot or how high the flame
 
your intake setup is more or less what you would get from most SRI and CAI. you have the cone style filter and ditched the stock airbox already. honestly the gains from a CAI are minimal on thier own. the turbo needs to breathe better, so an exhaust is in order, and the engine needs proper air fuel ratios, so tuning is in order.
