I've been told that the Skunk2 weren't very good compared to the Ground Control coilovers.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Thanks!

dont have experience with ground control, and never had coilovers before, but with that being said. i have the skunk2, and other than being noisey, as are all coilovers, i was very pleased with the ride. i was expecting alot worse from what i was being told. but remember, i have never had coilovers before so i am a rookie. all i know is i do like the ride. handles great too.

The ground controls have a reputation in suspension engineering and is all they do. They can also provide that type of technical support you may desire in teh future should you choose to change the vehicles handling characteristics in the future.

This is why I recommend them. Eibach ERS spring is probably the best linear spring in the world. This is what GC uses. However like the gentleman above mentioned, all these kinds of coilovers are noisy and can break down over time. The aluminum parts can deteriorate as well as the teflon and rubber o rings that you may have on your application.

So please remember to replace these parts and maintain them to truly enjoy them on the street for a long time to come.

i have skunk2 they are sometimes noisey and the ride is a little bouncy but overall i have ridden in a lot worse.....not too shabby :)

I have had both skunks and GC's and now I run H&Rs but will put coil overs on back springs on front. The GC's i didnt like because the allen set screw not very good for staying where you set it at. skunks had dual plates and were easier to adjust and stayed where you put them. as with all coil overs they will make you bottom out worse then springs and ride pretty rough. and i also had caster camber plates... now you want to talk about rough ride...:D

I have been using GC ever since 1996. On my Honda and now my P5. Great stuff. You just have to clean them everytime you wash the car. They jam real easily. They make the car handle like a dream!!! :D :D

That's what I've discovered about the Skunk2 models. I also drove my friends Civic with the Skunk2's. I'll be going with them vs. the Ground Control. I can also get them a LOT cheaper than the GC's ($285 + shipping)

One more question: for those that used the coilovers, did you have to use any camber correction? If so, what brand did you use? Results? Thanks!

i did use GC camber plates. they are nice. although you can make your own if you know a mill working guy. they were nice to correct my camber because if not if you drop it to low your spindles and everything get very close to not being able to be lined up right. they made tire were almost non exhistant (that is no toe in) but the ride quality suffered bad.

Just to point out, I've got my Skunk2 coilovers and a brand new set of Ground Control Camber plates for sale. My loss is your gain!! The Skunks have about 3,000 miles on them, and the plates are new. I have all necessary hardware, and instructions. Just to note, these DID NOT make noise on my car. No popping or squeaking. I installed them myself, and everything went smoothly, very easy install. $350 shipped!! PM me.

Damn you! I'd really like to buy them, but I've been buying furniture! :(

I would choose neither based on my previous experience with them. Sleeve-coilovers are not the way to go when lowering. They're bouncy, the aluminum sleeve wears out, and most importantly, they're flawed in design. Basically, the strut-travel is always longer than the spring travel. Struts fully extended, there is about a 1+" gap between the hat and the spring(gap only increases the more you want to lower your car). Basically, you hit a bump on the road, over-extend and on the way down you either bottom out or worse, blow a strut. Do it right, purchase springs/struts or true coilovers.

i just bought some skunk 2's from hawaii for 200 dollars including shipping. I will tell you how they are once I get them installed. I know a way to stop the squeeks. grease the top part or put rubber on the gasket!!
