green grease left side of engine???

I went down there today, and the guy had my car up on the lift. He said with a tear that small, if i where you i would clean it very well and put some silicone in there and let it dry for 24hrs, and it will be fine (and much cheaper).

Im not one to do things half ass, but would this work??
He said if i dont feel comfortable doing this bring it in next week and they will replace the boot.

the one question i forgot to ask: if i do use silcone should i try and put some grease back in(if i can get it throught the small tare).

The shop owner told me this.

You would probably need to still remove the axle and the boot to get it done properly...Yes you definately need to repack the boot with axle grease, and that is impossible with a tear in it...So if you take the boot off, clean it real good, and then apply some silicon sealent of some sort...let it dry, repack the boot and install it back over the CV joint and install the axle you should be ok...as long as the tear is indeed small...

I don't know though man, getting the boot replaced is cheaper than the whole axle...so if it was my car I would probably just get the new boot installed...

Im gonna get it fixed right. I dont want it to tear open again, i probally wont notice untill its too late.

im gonna try and get it in next week. For now i will try and keep the miles down and stay out of dusty areas.

If you pull the axle out, install a new boot. No point in fixing the old one if you have the thing out. The parts aren't really that expensive if you find a place that sells them. I knew a guy that rebuilt axles for a living at one point and even new race, cage, and boot would only set him back like $20 for the parts, so you should be able to fix it yourself if you have the time. However, pulling them out is usually a pain (done it before, but not on this car).

If you don't pull it out, then fixing the small tear might be the way to go.

Why not take it in under warranty? I don't see how any modification can be used against you here.

i doubt that is warranty. Something went into the boot and caused a rip, it is wear and tare. Im gonna call them and find out pricing for just the boot. and boot installed. If it is a rip, im gonna try and do it myself.

I completely forgot about the warranty thing...If you still are covered definately at least call your dealership to see if they will do it...CV boots do tend to deteriorate and rip and tear for no reason so they might cover it + axles are something covered by the warranty, just don't tell them you hit a stick...

I just got home from the dealer. They fixed it under warrenty, and they all gave me comments on my car. I though for sure my warrenty was voided.

Thanks for the help. Saved me at least 100$ Time for rotors and brakes.
