kind of embarassing but i think i got skemed. hope some more experienced ppl can help me out

the bad: ebay. i didnt get to fully check it out until 3 days after i received it because i was working two 14 hour days (sat and sunday). after i got off the 2nd day, i just noticed the paint was kind of chipped so i googled to see if my bov was a fake because it looks like it. the packaging was in zip-lock bags and the instructions look like they ran it off the copy machine. i really fail to see how a big company like hks can sell something with such a crappy finish on their product.

the good: the seller offered an exchange and said the paint chips may be from shipping but i doubt it. he also offered a full refund after i emailed him with more detailed pictures. he was told they are authentic but he really doesnt know himself. he explained his supplier is from japan and that these could be rejects from hks and that's why they are cheaper.

on to the pics:

a few things i found on the internet:

hksssqv1a.jpg

-Top middle fin is not as raised on the fake
-If you take it apart the real one has a black rubber diaphragm while the one in the fake unit is orange
-The diaphragm on the HKS also stays attached to the body, while the fake one doesn't
-Inside there's black rubber that says super sequential
-Inside cone is purple
-Older ones have adjustement screw
-Newer ones don't have screw
-Only 4 screws holding the cover, the other 4 are for looks

That whole replica unit looks bigger all around. And that fin is definitely different. I have one outside my car that I just got shipped to me.
The instructions in mine seemed kind of low budget also. I have the silver finish though, so it's harder to see if the paint quality is ok.

Later today maybe I can put a tape measure next to a few spots and send you the pics to compare. Think that'd help? Hopefully mine isn't a replica too. But I got it from PG, so I'm assuming it isn't.

ppl should care. replicas have crappier quality internals and known to leak more.

Not really, a bov is an important part of the turbo system. If you paid HKS money for a knock off bov, it'll probably go out soon and leak boost.

The black editions are V2 and I have a V3 so I can't compare exactly cause idk how much they changed from v2 to v3 but damn, that does look like a knock off. The paint looks rattled, your valve is purple where as mine is red, the "ssqv" around the opening looks like it got painted where as mine is polished then the badge on the back is nothing like mine. Mine has a full HKS marking, looks like a HKS police badge. no joke. lol.
