Yup, I do. Been hearing it for about 2 weeks now. Not really loud until today.

I got in the car today to get some Hangover cure, started it up and REALLY heard it at initial start. As soon as oil pressure built up, it pretty much went away to a minimum. I got my uber long screw driver out (Put it on the spot you want to hear, put your ear to the handle and you can pretty much tell where its coming from) I got it on #3 cyl, which seems to be the norm for people with problemed engines.

I got another car to drive, and gonna put the MSP in my friends garage and tear the engine out. So now Im at a big decision point on refinancing my personal loan to get forged and all the other s*** I need for a rebuild, or just replace with stock internals and save money. Im thinkin forged is the way to go.

I would go forged and have some fun with it.

forged or not, these engines were NOT designed for boost in mind. A engine built from ground up for boost has additional passages for coolant, also oil squirters to cool the pistons down, sodium filled valves, some even have extra lubrication for the rod bearings.

No doubt. The stock B6T in my '88 323 GTX has oil squirters, beefy rods and will handle 15-18 psi all day on a retuned factory ECU. It may handle more than that, I don't know yet. From what I'm now learning about the older motors, I think Mazda kept the oil squirters even on many of the later 1.8 BP motors like the one I had in my '91 Escort GT.

I guess some of these overengineering touches went out the window with the FS series. I hope Mazda learned their lesson with throwing a turbo on a motor like the FS. Here's an idea- Overbuild it, then if we push it too far and blow it up, it's clearly our own damn fault. At least we'd still come away from the experience with a little respect for the company and their engineering (and maybe the inclination to buy it again.)

what happens to the cylinder, does it eventually shut down or worse, does it break? My car made a weird knocking noise after i hadn't started it for a couple days. ah s*** i hope this doesn't mean my motors about to go.

Depends. Mine is a constant after sitting all nite. ITs rod knock upon initial start, and then dies to almost nothing at Idle once the oil pressure builds.

I would get it checked out bro :D

When the rod bearing gets pounded down/worn enough, the bearing backing will grab the crank, which usually spins the bearing assembly around inside the rod. Sometimes one bearing will stack up on the other. Not good, obviously.

The FS-DE DOES have oil squirters. If you're going to complain, atleast make valid points. Many motors are not "built for boost" but handle it just fine.

There's a reason HiBoost is able to use cast pistons in their bottom end rebuilds and the motor stays together while other people blow stock motors. Its not always the motor's fault.

Anyways, sorry to hear about engine problem #2 Craig.

Yup engine # 2 First one at 17k this one at 18k :D Hey, amybe when I rebuild this one Ill get 19k outta it. :D

I dunno. Im gonna sell off my other cars, buy a bike for the summer and wrench on the speed.

I have a wierd ticking sound in my engine and i cant quite figure out what it is. doesnt sound like a knock so im not too worried about it but its still annoying as hell,, but im thinkin one of the valves is sticking or loose. Its seems to be coming from the left side of the engine (when looking at it) near the belt drive. any ideas what it might b?

i have heard that same damn noise on my car before... i was told it was the injectors that they are very noisy... but i know what your thinking..same thing i was.. its not the injectors... i had that prob/sound for liek 3 months intermitnely... then it went away so i dunno.. let me know what you find

Any updates on the knock? Better...worse...same?

Sure enough, the FS-DE has squirters. I stand corrected. That's what I get for listening to the wrong peeps lately...some of which are hardcore B6/BP fellows that apparently never worked on an FS. Still wondering why so many seem to have problems at relatively low boost vs. the earlier motors (rods & a/f, crank walk?), but another very debatable topic for another thread at another time. Back to your regularly scheduled thread. :)

How can you tell it's "Rod Knock"? When I start my car, I hear some knock, but it quickly goes away. It's always done that since I bought the car. I don't hear anything while driving.

might be your injectors..... everytime I put race gas, the injectors get really loud.... at idle at least.
