Brief backstory of the vehicle,

Bought the car from a neglectfull owner, the car's timing belt snapped. I replaced belt,water pump,idler,tensioner,seals. Then the car ran kept stalling when coming to a stop, also at idle when it was warmed up it was try and stall then recover. I also found out the turbo was completely shot and I identified many vacum leaks.

So I picked up a used turbo / manifold I did all the seals on it. I got everything back however I have the same issue Idles good when cold, wants to stall when you drive it ( stopping ). The car builds boost but then starts misfireing. I also had a test drive where my rpm's got stuck @ 4500. I ran some odb2 codes and I had 2 faults;

1) Running rich fuel mixture
2) misfire

I read many things on the forums here but would like some advice on what I should replace / do next.

So far I replaced the plugs and that didn't make a difference. Should I be doing coil packs next? Any help is much appreciated i'm so close to getting this thing done and I got a taste of boost for a brief second lol.

get the actual "Pxxx" code, then grab the workshop manual, and look up what the code means. running rich can also cause a misfire. cross referencing the two codes will help narrow down the source of the issue.

make sure plugs and wires are good. as for the rich mixture is a common issue with the msps. the tune is pig rich. only having a piggyback like a ssafc will help ALMOST completely eliminate that. but you would need a full standalone for it to be completely gone. but having an ssafc will definitely wake the car up and make the ride more enjoyable.. but again the misfire check plugs and gap them correctly .028 - .033 if i remember correctly. and double check for vac leaks around your couplers and exhaust mani isnt cracked. unfortunately when you have a MSP that hasnt been taken care of there are many things that can be overlooked. normally vac leaks and a sticking egr valve can cause near stalling issues or crappy idling.

First code is P0172 - System too rich ( Bank 1 )
Second code is P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire detected

I just replaced both my coils and plug wires. I also picked up some bosch platinums and the car hesitates/sputters under acceleration :( I will need to find a shop manual unless anyone here is nice enough to cross reference these codes for me?

ngk copper core plugs seem to be the most common plug there cheap and work great. that and you need to make sure the gap on your plugs are set between .28 to .31 the msps have a tighter gap than the n/a proteges. might fix the misfire.

P0172 is probably the MAF. The 301 could be caused by the P0172. You could also have a leaking injector on that cylinder. I would swap injectors to see if the misfire follows. And, as stated, verify the gap on the plugs. Access to a scan tool where you can view teh MAf readings? At idle and engine at operating temperature the voltage should be around 1.9-2.0 volts. If you can check that, then you can also check your STFT and LTFTs and that'll assist in determining the cause.

Also, check to make sure your MAF isn't installed backwards.

What do u mean MAF installed backwards. Im having similar issues, cylander 2 misfire, running rich and stalling, of course when i had the head ported and polished the machine shop didn't adjust the valves, this could be the majority of the problem.

Also check you cylinder 1 plug boot... I had same issue
As do the other code, I know this sounds stupid but the msp only takes one type of plug, I also had the lean code and if I remember correctly the plugs fixed mine

Hey what's up guys . I just bought my msp and having same problem. I bought new plugs and one coil due to not having funds from buying the car etc. I know it needs a o2 sensor cause the wire is broke and its throwing a code. I just got a light for wts but don't really see how that would be a hesitation under boost problem.
