Got my winter tires on yesterday

just got my Pirelli Winter carvings (with steelies) and 2 things jumpsed out at me almost immediately

1) Steelies and winter tires are ugly! (almost wish I'd bought a cheap set of ALU rims!

2) they're LOUD! Tire noise is significant. I hope this is just a side-effect of the legendary grip these things have! (based on the reviews I've read and people I've talked to these make Blizzaks and michellin's look like they're bald!)

I had snows on my old Ford Taurus and remember how loud they were too. They were studded as well so you can imagine the DB level!!!

I wish I could get studs on my winter tires but thats not an option in Ontario! Would be nice to have to for the drives up on the bruce peninsula!

They should not be ugly if you have Mazda's hubhaps. I believe Mazda dealerships sell packages with them

I installed my 16'' X-Ice last week and I can't say they're louder though I haven't driven on highway yet. I ended up with alloy wheels from TireRack since price difference steel vs alloy was not significant.

Well got my hac RSis last year and bought a cheap set of hub caps and I will tell ya these tires are great. I tell ya it was well worth the 1000+ for the whole set

Interestingly enough, the Canada spec 16" alloy can be ordered by your local USA Mazda dealer. Kinda pricey though.

The Blizzak LM25's I got on now make a little more noise than the Toyos, but I'm sure the trade off is worth it, plus they don't handle all that much like a snow tire, which is what I wanted seeing as though we don't get that much really DEEP snow in the city.

I finally got mine on and the winters are not noticably noisier.I have the Semperit Winter sport snow and ice tire ( on mazda steelie rims ) They are
H rated and actually handle very well.
The one Mazda dealer couldnt quote me a price on hubs..
Zoom5Zoom.. how much were yours ?

Just got my snows on - Goodyear Snow trackers

I just got my snows installed yest. at AJAX Mazda - four steels and Good Year Snow trackers. The noise level has defintely increased for me driving, it is very loud, especially on the highway. They look quite ugly as well but hey it's for winter traction.

Wow, I'm suprised you went to AjaxMazda. Really nice bunch, but their Tire pricing was high! They quoted me over $1000 for Pirelli Winter carvings (I got them for 773)

No way that cheap. damn I paid 790 for the goodyears...where did you get yours from?. too late now....but reason I went to the dealership after calling around was because they were the cheapest amongst the dealerships, and also because of the hubcentric setup? they said that walmart/canadian tire steel rims wouldn't fit on properly?. is this true?

I got mine from Gyro Mazda (134 Laird Dr. in the area of Eglinton West of the DVP), it's been well publicized on the boards ( by me!!)
They had the best deal around using hub centric steelies! I posted the price on mpvclub.com but that board is down most of the time these days!

Where the hubs punched out by chance? You can tell because the hub center has very sharp edges...

No, Looks like they've been turned out. They fit tight against the hubs. The Punched out ones are the "multi-fit" rims

Were you looking for Goodyears? that might still be the case. I was looking specifically for Pirelli Winter Carving. I've used goodyear tires before and Won't use them, just had bad experiences with them.
