Got my ECU flash thsi morning

So did I. Oh...so...smoooooth. The car feels like it's a bit more powerfull but the best part is that instead of feeling like a tiny engine with a wild turbo strapped on, the engine pulls smoothly the whole way. Now get me a permanant bushing fix and I will sleep soundly at night.

HEHEHEH Yeah but I do kinda miss the whoooosh BAM, whoosh BAM!
It is very smooth now and , AHEM, after further testing it is indeed faster at 10 than it was at 12. Of course I may get back to 12PSI yet. :D

hmm im still debating on doing this "flash" joe p said if i do he will "disown the car n act like hes never seen it b4"

Huh? Why? Seems to me that everyone is praising the FLASH. Besides, looks like a good opportunity to play with post flash fuel pressure and increased boost.

I mean no disrespect, and Joe is an excelent tuner, but why is it that everyone and thier frikin mother is assuming his word is like the word of god ? No one knows what the timing map is like. For all we know, it could still possibly handle 12 psi like nothing.

As you can easily see, EVERYONE who has gotten the flash, has givin it nothing but praises. EVEN YASHOOA. :D

I agree with Joe I do not think you should get the flash. I saw a dyno on it and it still is not right. It should be more even. I agree it is better then it was but I would not be turning up the boost with that flash.

Yep. Advanced timing will give you more power to offset the terrible fuel dump, but will be much less reliable if you plan to modify your car and push it past 10psi. People have heard detonation at 12psi with the stock timing, I can't imagine what will happen with the flash, in the short and long run.

But otherwise a good idea for those who want to remain stock.

From what I've read so far is, For those people like myself that only want the car for a daily driver with little mods like intake n exhaust should get the flash.
I see myself at 8-9psi near the end of my warranty, and once I have a better understanding of what the motor can handle.

I just had the flash done this morning and "WOW". I am very pleased. There is a very obvious difference in the way it drives. Smooth power delivery across the whole band, and it doesnt jerk when ya let off the throttle. I dont know what my HP and TQ were yesterday, but today it is a good 15-20HP more!!! Time to toss the Injen back on and go get dyno'd.

So, are you guys saying that if I get the flash, I'm screwed forever?? I'm spiking to 10PSI right now with intake, DP, catback. The only oither thing I wanted to do performance-wise was get the FMIC. Are you saying I'd be better off finishing off my mods and getting a standalone fuel management?

yeah exact same question, is it gonna "limit" what we can do to our cars?

If some one want to tune the car right, he would get full engine management for boost. Mazda chose to solve their problems this way, because they have to worry about emission, warranty and other issues that us don't have to worry about or try not to remember them.

Joe is saying from the point of just simply turning up the boost and get some high octane gas for lots of hp, it use to work but not now. That's what he meant by it's harder to tune now, since upping boost means you probably have to get another ecu that willl override the oem's timing but that means u can also get custom fuel map, too.

Like I said, if you want a challenge and some fun stick around, if you don't want to flash and want something that's easy to tune for mega HP then go domestic (hehe there's even 1 now for sports compact segment). Look at where Joe has gone for cheap HP.

Ok, so If I am getting full engine managment in the future there is no point on getting the flash right because I could fix the hesitation with engine managment anyways.

Can anyone verify this? This seems like a well put question that I'm curious about as well...

I dont know if you all realize it, but shes the owner of Joe P's car now... ;)
Hes just mad he cant sell any more FPR kits now that mazda fixed the issue. :D

My kit is already off... i just gotta find a way to cap the intake, and get the vacuum line on the regulator off. Its clamped, and almost like melted to the nipple it connects to.. Right now, i just have a vacuum cap on the T.

As far as making the car less tunable. You could only go so far on this car without getting fuel management... now that the car has a better fuel map, it might have to come a bit earlier.
Turning up boost a bit, exhaust, intake, will still be safe... but you might want a little fuel mod, like a rising rate Fuel Regulator to supply a bit more fuel under boost.

I totally agree with this statement. If you just want a daily driver go get the flash if you want to tune forget the flash.
