Goodbye Mazda3, Hello MSP!

'03.5 Blue MSP #2543
Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself. My name's Jay, and I've been a member of a mazda3 forum (which this site apparently likes to censor...lol) for almost the entire time since I bought my ti-grey 3 hatch in august '05, and I've been happy to see the birth of mnmazda.com just a few weeks ago. (I go by the same name in both forums)

This afternoon, I was hanging out at a local mazda dealer (Walser) with a few fellow 3 owners from my area. We happened to catch wind of a blue MSP that had just arrived the day before, and was still in the service bay being checked out. We all headed over to take a peek, and before I knew what happened, something in my mind clicked, and I was scrambling to think of reasons why I shouldn't buy this car. A few throws of the shifter turned into a test drive, which turned into me sitting down with a salesperson, which turned into running numbers. Next thing I know, I'm getting ready to bid adieu to my Mazda3--a car I loved from the start, and have only grown even more fond of as each of it's 37k miles ticked by.

It's only got 2k more miles than my 3, is going to cost me a fair bit less even with a service contract, and it's got boost! Seriously, I've known for some time that my 3 would end up being boosted at the expense of my warranty--the MSP just seemed like a great way to get myself introduced to the world of FI without breaking the bank. In fact, it's saving me money, which is a bonus since I'm closing on a house at the end of the month.

Here's a blurry cellphone pic (I'll get some more up once I actually have the car!)

I have to say, the aftermarket intake/exhaust sure made this little mazda sound mean, and the shifter is butter! Even with 5 adults in the car, I could still tell it was one quick and nimble little ride, and I can't wait to get it by myself on dry roads!

I'm going to be pretty sad to see my 3 go--it was a fantastic car that I never got bored of driving. But I think the MSP is going to give me a lot of the things I wanted to do to my 3 in a more manageable package, and without the expense of a MS3. Although, that car is stupidly fast... I'm looking forward to getting caught up to the modding options for this car, and taking my first steps into the world of a boosted engine.

Congrats! What a great car, looks sweet in blue :)

Trust me, you'll enjoy your Protege :) they're just such great cars!

Boosted Engine=Money

Yeah, but factory-boosted engine + warranty = less money than aftermarket boost - warranty

It was going to happen to the 3 eventually, whether I could afford it or not... lol

Thanks! I can't wait to pick it up on monday, and I'm juiced enough that it's going to take me awhile to get to sleep tonight. I'd better rest up though, because I've got a full day of de-modding the 3 planned for tomorrow!

Congrats (thumb)

The MSP is a neat little car that will never bore you. Still one of the nicest compacts out there.

Congrats, I think you are the first ever to do that change!!! Welcome to the MSP...most stupendous protege.

Not only another minnesotan, but one who also surfs car forums at 6:30am! lol

Have you been pointed to mnmazdas.com yet? Lots of cool people there, from all branches of the mazda family!

congrats on the purchase and welcome to the minnesota forum. We have some very dedicated owners here in the twin cities. Mine's got intake/exhaust only and yah it really make the car sound soooo sweet. Nice color too:)
