ok so i want to replace my downpipe with a turbo back straight through exhaust. I mentioned this to my friend and he said when he had his turbo miata, he had his friend at his muffler shop custom bend a 3" down pipe to just dump straight to the ground. He said it made his turbo spool up alot quicker. I was thinking about doing this to my MSP. Is this a good idea? its also cheap to do.

you could but i wouldnt do it, unless i am on the track.

it's gonna be hell of a ride for street car, get a downpipe bypass instead, that way you can switch back and fourth.

I am guessing your friend's miata got a pretty restrictive exhaust to begin with, a proper sized turbo back would spool some what close to a dumptube.

just pray that cops in your area don't have portable emmisions testers... because in some states that could be a $10,000 fine (or something like that from what i read somewhere) + car impounded.

It is a cool idea but if you run it like that for a long period of time I heard you can mess up your valves because you need at least some back pressure. A freind of mine did that with his SRT-4 and it sounded like ass cuz all you heard was it backfiring when he would rev it up. Like iam7head sid a bypass would be cool that way cops wont bug you to and since you live near LA like I do you know how cops are about imports and loud exhausts
