GOOD NEWS NAKAMICHI LOVERS!

It is with honors that I present some new information about Upgrading your Nakamichi stereo system! I have successfully completed a Test using a Nak head Unit and a Sony 10 Disc CD changer and it works! A Nak deck can control a Sony (and probably others) CD changer from the HU controls!

So far tests have been completed using a Nak Head unit and two older Sony CD-A15 and CD-A30 10 disc changers. I will be continuing to test Sony models as they become available to me. I have high hopes of finding a 10 or a 12 disc changer with MP3 playback capabilities for those of us with Nak Head units!

Now don't get excited just yet. An external box or cable will be required for this but making one is no big deal. While the Nak can control the Sony changer functions. The audio from the changer to the deck is on different pins. An adapter box to either break out the audio, or adapt the audio pin to pin will be needed. Details on constructing such a box to follow so stay tuned!

I didn't realize that Nak made the Mazda3 stereo. The P5 stereo is panasonic based.

I'm pretty sure the 04-05 stock radios are still panasonics... at least the CD units are (they're the same as the protege)

I posted the information for people wanting to upgrade there stock Mazda stereo's to a Nakamichi but wanted more then 6 disc capabilities!

No not exactly. I own a Mazda 3 and i am upgrading my stock stereo with a Nak head unit. I thought other Mazda3 owners might be interested as well.


As an Audio systems engineer i was quickly dissatisfied with the stock 3 stereo.
I have used Nakamichi stereo's extensively for years. The quality of the older units is 2nd to none. However i am not completly satisfied with there CD changers. and while every other brand seems to have a large variety of choices. Nak only has a few and no one in the industry has been able to tell me if anything else has the same changer protocol. So after testing many changers, i found that the older sonys will in fact work. and that is a step towards being able to allow others to retain there Nakamichi head units and add on additional choices in changers. I will be testing a variety of changers as i can aquire them. I will also be persuing an 13-pin to Ai-net adapter so that any of the newer uni-link or Ai-net solutions can be used.

My goal is to provide a quality solution for all.

I will be adding a Nakamichi TD-45Z head unit with additional changer, A custom DSP controller, and a combination of 1st generation soundstream amps with Vifa speakers components to my Mazda3.

I will be providing detailed write up on a variety of audio related items to help others here on the 3 board.

Ok cool... but you might want to post in the main CA&E section so that others will see. Mazda3 owners are only a portion of our member base and it sounds like what you are doing could be usefull to protege owners (our largest member base) and others.

so it's NOT a stock replacement (that has the same "custom" trim panel like th stock s*** does) then, ok...

yeah, the normal stock system sucks... but I'm pretty happy with the stock bose system though... ok, it's not the best out there and for the purists, you can b**** about it all you want... and yes I know bose sucks in the audio realm, but it's good enough for people like me who don't care to **** with car audio (because a car has bad acoustics to begin with, so its a waste of money even ******* with it).... but at least the 3's stock bose system is way better than a lot of the other stock bose systems out there... the bose systems in the past were notorious for having bad audio quality

Bose is usually better than whatever stock components come in a car...but it is rarely worth the price the dealer charges for it so that is why Bose gets such a bad name...spend that money on an aftermarket system and you'll end up with better sound. Additionally, the system is all integrated so replacing one part (ie speakers or hu) never produces the results you would expect and drives installers crazy. Bose does a good job of packaging cheap speakers, weak amplifiers, and tiny subs so they produce a well rounded signal.

well yes, if I had to pay extra for the bose then **** it... but it came with the sp23 so there wasn't a choice and I can't complain either

but yeah, as far as dealing with the bose s***, it's a PITA... weird impedences, stupid external amp s***, etc
