Hey people. I am looking for some good laptops. Thing is they need to be compatible for Europe, more specific, Portugal. I have been looking at Dell but their page for Portugal seems to not be running so I've been looking at Spain. I'm gonna give them a call later on. Any other ideas on good laptops? Is sony good? I will need it mainly for school and for internet and stuff. Dont need a serius media center but will be used for games. Any ideas, throw them this way. Thanks

i have an HP Pavillion zd8000. it has a 17" display, dvd burner, 1gb ram, and a P4 @ 3.4 ghz. Its good enough for me to run AutoCad Civil 3D 2007.

I would consider HP products before any others.

I'm no laptop afficionado (built my own desktop though) but it seems like you'd be okay going with a dell XPS laptop or if you really are into hardcore gaming maybe even an alienware laptop (but those are overpriced). Seems like 2.8 - 3 Ghz, 2 gigs of ram, a 20-40 gig HD and an above average screen say oh 16-18 inch screen would do you just fine.

Heres a link to PC worlds laptop page. You could find some useful info here. Enjoy!

I had an HP desktop a while back, not too bad. Is the Hp the one with the swirling Screen that you can write on? I'm trying to remember which one it is.

yeah, def dont need no alienware:p. Not a hardcore gamer. Just something to pass by time.

Then any of the main brands should do you just fine. My sister just got a dell lappy with an 18" screen, 2.8 Ghz and a 40gig HD. She loves it.

Thats a lotta dough! I think my sisters was like 899. She bought it on sale at best buy. You should run by your local bestbuy or circuit city and find out when their next sale is or better yet...

www.newegg.com

this site has EVERYTHING!!!!

But we sure to shop around, there are some KILLER deals out there!

if I get intel core duo, I dont really need the 2ghz right? the 1.8 or 1.7 should be fine?

Software, language, power also is different in Europe. Not all things will be compatible.

I agree i have an HP myself for 2 years now and i love it works perfect

APPLE!!!!

the mini or the new macbooks are awesome...you can install windows xp and flip between osx and xp...so technically you can get a european version of xp and install it on there without a giffy...or so i thinks

Yeah but Europe is mainly all PC so I'll stick with that. No apple for me, even though it was the first comp I ever used.

dude on bootup you can toggle between xp and osx beleive me its worthwhile! and prob a bit cheaper then a good quality laptop!

Ya apple. I use to hate them but since OSX and now dual boot u can run windows on an apple faster than windows on a pc...

Uh Oh, here come the Mac people. Do not we swayed to the darkside with the mac disciples talk of faster performance and shiny clear plastics. There is a reason why Macs only have about a 2% share of the computing market.
Besides I lost respect for all mac users when they said I could not be a graphic designer cuz I used a PC. Where are my mac using buds now? Sipping lattes at starbucks while I've bought a home and am doing just fine!

But in all seriousness. Macs are cool. To each his own but My spec built PC is faster than any comprable mac and I built it for a lot cheaper. Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign run super fast, only crashed on me once in the 3 years I've had it when I was configuring kotor, I have never gotten the pack screen of death and I'm a dang fine designer thank you very much.

Oh and those new PC vs Mac commercials with the 2 guys are a load of CRAP and an insult to people who know anything about computers.

Bottom line, it's not the platform but the talent that determines the end result.

man apple all the way. and i dont know what your issue is with "compatible with portugal". its a computer. Im in italy right now on my macbook pro and have been all over europe with it. the only thing at all you would need is this.... its the only thing you would need with any laptop no matter what brand or operating system it is...

(of course you can go cheaper and just buy a $2 adapter. ALL laptops are designed to take US or euopean current)

and in my opinion the percentage of europeans on mac is the same as in america. i see jsut as many apple logos on peoples cars and vespas here. but most people here dont have thier own computers like everyone i know in the states.

also.....i used to sell laptops for a living so i can tell you about thier quality. never ever purchase hp or compaq. say what you will but i have talked to FAR too many people about having thier hp and compaqs crap out (ive had 2 that f*ed up on me) to realize you honestly get what you pay for. The only brands i would seriously consider would be Mac Sony or Fujitsu. I used to own a sony and that worked great for me. but i am an architecture student so i require the uses of the mac.
