Going to Basic Training

To any of the army people, can you tell me what happens after basic and AIT. I ship out to basic after new years, what I need to know is what happens after you get sent to your unit. How is living on base compared to living off? How much time do I have to move my things? Is there anything else I need to know? Thanks for any advice given?

COOL!! good job for you man. I was in the Army for 6 years and loved it. But anyway after AIT you will come back home for hometown recruiting for 30 days if you signed up for it. (if not you can still get it, just talk to your DS) After that the Army will send shipping orders for your house holg goods get get moved to your new post. Are you married? Have kids? If not youll be in the baracks and love it. Not the best housing in the world but good friens and great parties!! If your married, depending on your post, I would live off post. Where are you headed? And whats your MOS? You can PM me any questions

Yup i'm 63b, I don't really know what vehicles I will be working yet but I can't wait. I want to work my way up to the M1's and Bradley's.

no you dont!! stick to humvees! trust me! remember tanks go in the mud, where they go you go. If you go to Ft. Campbell I can help you out and get you in a aviation unit. Its alot better!!! trust me. It will be the closest thing to the air force as you can get. Im an Apache guy and loved every minute of it. Now I work for Boeing on the Apache and deploying again in Jan. Its cake., And also remember that the pay is the same if your in a infantry unit or a kick ass aviation unit. But the benifits are alot better!!!! Dont do it man.

see if you can get your unit to send you to the H8(recovery) qualifyer school after you complete AIT. that way you could be a 63bH8. the course is pretty sweet plus it means that you would be your units wrecker operator which has it's perks.
