Going Back to the Source: Remaking the Team Moon Exhaust

Yo guys! Remember me? Well after a long time being down in the dumps with crappy finances and trying to go back to school, I finally got a nice promotion managing a restaurant in which I waited tables for 5 years. This included a BIG pay raise and I now could get back to racing my P5 and start saving up for the BIG TURBO. Anyways....

I have been reading about the Team Moon cat-back for the P5 but I cannot find one for sale anywhere online. I have seen a lot of project P5s with the Team Moon cat-back. Where can I find one? Anyone here got one for sale?

This exhaust is no longer being made...until now. Here's the story:

I love this exhaust, and unfortunately after 3 years of racing and bad NJ weather, I ripped a hole in the muffler which cannot be repaired. I thought of getting a racing beat, but didn't like the throaty sound compared to the Supra sounding Team Moon.

Everybody around the neighborhood including the guys at sunoco, folks at the meat shop in which I do pick ups for the restaurant...etc, knew my car and could tell when I was around the corner just by its exhaust sound. Being the only Laser Blue P5 in the area...well I guess you could say that my car had it's own spirit...

So anyway, after much thinking, I called and talked to Charlie of Team Moon and tried to convince him to make another exhaust for me. He declined, (actually sounded kind of saddened, probably due to the bad sale of the exhaust) and would NOT supply me with the part number for the muffler(?!@!@#). He did though give me the phone number of the Muffler Shop and the name of the guy who originally built the exhaust for him.

This is where I am now, and after shipping my dead TM exhaust from NJ, to its maker in GA, I'm now working with the owner of Grand Mufller to remake the Team Moon exhaust for my P5. I hope to design it a lil' bit different with a bigger diameter piping (2.5", instead of 2.25") for my future turbo upgrade, and use 304 Stainless Steel instead of the aluminized muffler. Tommorrow, we'll be on the phone together to plan it out. Wish me luck.

BTW: I'm naming it the TEAM FUNK Exhaust.

Good luck. I'll probably try to clean mine up and sell it when I go larger for my turbo.

Yo guys, the making of the exhaust is a little bit backed up...still waiting on the shop. I'll post pics up soon of what they're making...

Try this link. It has pics of the exhaust and at the end what it looked like......Keep in mind that it was made of aluminized steel except for the muffler. Mine doesnt look near that bad. I also polish my muffler so it is still shiny to this day.

exhaust shipped out on thursday or friday, stay tuned for pics, if it shows up at my house tommorrow or today, I'll bring it to the Central NJ meet tuesday night to show some folks.

Got it yesterday afternoon after coming home from the library! Okay, here are the pics.

Some thoughts:
1. there is no resonator, I think Buster forgot, but that's okay, I don't really care.

2. The bends are absolutely perfect.

3. The muffler is a big upgrade in comparison to the original moon. The tip is shorter and the polish is alot brighter.

I'll post more pics up soon after install which will be around October 16-17.

me too

Yeah, I have the same question. Do the pipes clamp together? Or must they be welded?

I'm the guy whose rusted-out Team Moon you linked to earlier in the thread. Needless to say, I have also been looking for a replacement cat-back system. Depending on how your install goes, and how much this new custom system costs, I might be asking you for contact info for this guy.

You are cool.

so do you have to get the exhaust welded in or are those slip fit or something.

YO guys, sorry for the delay...included with the pipes are flanges that are needed to be installed for the piping to be bolted together. Buster from Grand Bending also made the pipes a bit longer for fitment so I could get the new muffler tip out or in from the bumper to my liking. So..there might be some cutting of the pipes and rewelding to get it all up and running. I've spent around $500ish to get this exhaust made for me. Usually systems like this cost alot more, because this was a custom job, but I got a great deal. I have a feeling....this sucker is going to be loud.
