im writing a paper for school comparing american cars to imports and i was wondering if anyone knows which GM motor is the most efficient in terms of horsepower per liter. i think its the 4cyl they put in the cobalt but im combing all their sites to find it

Hmmm thats a pretty easy paper all you need to type is.

Rotary > all

thats it

I wanna worship the WOMP SC too where do i get a cool sig?

i don't think Rism meant "fuel efficient" but more of a power/displacement efficient....in which it is....hugely. Not many 238 NA hp 1.3L motors on the road today.

p.s. Rism, we just made them ourselves. If you'd like one just pm me with what you'd like it to say.

in my dads z71 silverado he has the 5.3L i think it is rated at 280hp or so.. He get close to 20mpg.. i use to have a 3.9lv6 dodge dakota that got 16mpg on a good day. This 5.3 vortech is a hell of a motor and its got some balls as well. His truck is a 2001 and has 85,000 on it and has yet to have a single problem, cant say that about my mazda.

I also have a 92 GMC sonoma with the 4.3l vortech, i recently just drove it from Pa to VT with a couch and my snowtires in the back, along with 5 cases of Yuengling, and still got 20.5mpg. oh and the truck has 195,000miles on it and runs and shifts smooth as hell.

These arent the most effiecent engines GM makes, but they make a hell of a good truck engine.

^^^^

One of the reasons I was asking. Also does a Subaru count as a GM as they own the controlling share of Fuji Heavy Industries, who owns Subaru?

thats not a production motor....wanna compare this to the 787MAzda rotary??

I'm fairly sure he's just looking for actual production models.

p.s. remember GM is a lot more than Chevy and pontiac.

Oh, didnt even read it. You want HP/litre. Look overseas. They, like all other US companies, use turbo diesel 4's over there that KILL on hp/litre. That is if you want to do smaller engines.

But who knows? As the old saying goes, there's no replacement for displacement, so the most efficient might be a larger motor.
I can virtually guarantee that, just by the nature of the system, you are looking for a forced-induction combustion engine.

The ecotec is a production motor. I was just stating that they have a version of it that makes 1000hp.

Oh, and the three euro GM makes are Opel, Vauxhall, and Holden.

holden isn't european ;) i don't think holden is big on hp/liter either, most of their cars are big and made to make every day power, not peak power. aussies like v8's. a pushrod v8 isn't going to win any hp/liter contests

I remember for a long time the ITR was considered the best...now 100hp per liter motors are common. Just wish mazda would get in on this...
