When I saw the article, I hoped that my experience with them sent karma got GM and bit them in the ass. I bout one of their "Certified Used" 2000 GMC Sonoma SLS for my move from CA to FL. It had 17K miles, and I was told it was traded in by elderly gentlemen who got a bigger truck. 2 days after I bought it, the drivers seat recliner handle broke clean off at the pot-metal gear. Warrantied for 50K miles, I took it in. 2 weeks later, I was bumped at no more than 5 MPH in the right rear, sending the truck into the body shop for repair. $4200, and 3 weeks later, I moved to FL with that retched thing. The passenger seat recliner handle broke somewhere in <st1:state w:st="on"><st1 ="">New Mexico</st1> </st1:state>in a semi-reclined state, and my wife had to sit lowrider style for 3000 miles. Got to FL, drivers seat slides into dash as if I was adjusting the seat when stopping. Took it to dealer, new seat brackets and handles later, I am off. Over the course of the year and a half that I owned that hunk of low-quality s*** ass American crap, I was at the dealer 17, yes, 17 ******* times for the seats sliding into the dash when I stopped. I ended up making a 2 by 4 brace setup, as I could not keep taking it in, losing my only vehicle. I was at the dealer a few additional times for warranty repairs on defective brakes, alternator, driveshaft, something in the transmission, and a couple relays that fried. This was a 2 year old car, acting like a 30 year old car with 400K miles! When my wife and I got married in the time we owned the truck, my family rented us a car for our 200 mile trip for our honeymoon, as nobody wanted us driving it very far. I had over 20+ registered complaints with GM on my truck, as well as one of the hundreds of complaints about the seats sliding into the dash, and repairs not working. At 49K, I went in one last time for the seats sliding into the dash. I had one of the Raulersons (owners of the Raulerson dealers in <st1:city w:st="on"><st1 ="">Gainesville</st1>)</st1:city> sit in my car as I showed him the problem. He tried to tell me it was "within spec" and was not going to fix it. After some calm, collected, professional discussion, they fixed it one more time, for free. The very next day, I drove that ******* truck to the Mazda dealer, and got 2 Mazdas. I left the pile of complaint forms, as well as repair paperwork in the rear jack area, where I am sure they never unscrewed to clean.
Although one is a Ford Ranger basically, we have had our cars for 2 and a half years, and have not had a single problem with my P5, and only a radiator hose leak on the B3000.
That was my one and only experience owning a GM vehicle. It will be my last.
It's my story, as well as the countless others who had bad experiences with crappy GM cars, which has sent the company into a spin. I hope they do not close the GM plants. I hope that Toyota takes them over, retrains the personnel, and explains to the assembly workers what the whole "quality" thing is about.
