adding a 5mm spacer to a +46mm offset wheel will make it a +41mm wheel. The 46mm wheel will almost never rub without a drop on the car and will rub with a drop. Swampbutt has a 18x8 wheel offset +48 with 235/40 tires, he rubs slightly with his mazdaspeed springs. Why do i know all of this? Cause i was looking into wheels that were 18x7.5 with a +40mm offset. I would of had to run 215/40 tires and couldnt lower the car. i decided against these and instead bought oem rx8 (18x8 +50mm, will not rub) wheels.
One sidenote: Shaving the hub mating surface of the rim is an option. Change a +46mm wheel to a +48-50mm wheel and it can save you from some tire rubbin even though we are talking about 1/8th of an inch. Some say you should never shave the wheel and some say it will and has worked countless times with people who know what they are doing.
