Getting a P5 this week - Which color should I get???

I decided to get a P5 and found a dealer that will give me a great deal - $15,350 USD (that's $720 below dealer invoice, which includes the Mazda $500 rebate) for a base unit stick with roof rack (not the 2003.5 version) including 0% interest for 36 months. Btw, the dealer is 85 miles away from me and I got them to make me their best offer since I don't have time to drive down there to neg. a price out. They called back and gave me a price that I couldn't refuse - I was planning on paying $150+ over invoice! I'm glad I had them tell me their best price or else I would've spent $370 more then I should have. My local Dealer (3 miles away) wanted $475 over invoice and told me that the $500 Mazda rebate wasn't available with the 0% interest 36 month financing, which is a lie!!!

Now the trouble is to pick a color - they have Sunlight Silver Metallic, Laser Blue Mica, and Midnight Blue Mica. Originally I was going to get the Laser Blue Mica but now I'm unsure, mostly because the photos on this site of the laser blue look bright and cheap looking - when I saw it on the lot I liked it better. I thought I was going to like the Midnight Blue Mica over the Laser Blue but when I went to the dealer's lot the Midnight Blue looked darker and not as colorful (blue) as the photos I've seen on the web. Then there's the silver - classic in color and looks great in the photos on the web but when I saw a P5 in bright daylight with this color it looked almost white (don't like white cars) and very plain.

Then comes another problem - what will these colors look like with a modest level of black tint all around, except on the windshield? My friend says the silver would be the best color for tinting, followed by the Midnight Blue. He told me that the Laser Blue won't look right tinted. But since I haven't seen a Laser Blue P5 tinted I have no idea as to what it will look like. Any suggestions, advice, or photos you can post would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the club!
...I say, go for the silver one! :D

I did, and I love it. No tint, but there's a shadow that kinda looks like tint.
Also, I heard that they discontinued the midnight blue...so maybe that's the color that you will see the least of. But that's just hearsay, and the silver looks better anyway. So forget what I just said...(stoned)

man..i would switch for a laser blue so quick...
and any car with 20% all the way around looks good. =)
we tinted some Mp3s, it looks good. So i assume laser blue mica protege5 will come out with same results.
if you really want, get BLUE tint..
no, im not talking about that cheesy mirror/chrome blue tint, just straight BLUE tint... thats legal too...well depending on state/area, usually as long as ur 2 front window visibility is 35%. i just did some blue 20% tint on one of the new, super deep blue nissan 350z, that thing is HOT.

eggynatey - Actually, I thought they changed the color of the 2003 for Midnight Blue since it looked so different in person vs the 2002 photos I saw. As for which color will be the most rare - it would have to be the Laser Blue since this is the first year they have it for the P5 and will probably be the last year - since the Mazda 3 will replace the P5 and will have more "normal" colors. I just wish the silver was a little darker like the photos I've seen of the Mazda SP20 - overseas version of the P5.

Protege Type 5 - I'm glad you like the Laser Blue that much...makes me feel better about it. But the photo you posted makes the Laser Blue look brighter and cheaper then I remember when I saw it on the dealers lot in daylight. It would be great if the P5 used the same Mazda6 Lapis Blue, since I think that's a great color - almost like a darker Laser Blue. Btw, I'm going to do the same tint level all around (except windshield) - 30%. I would go darker but I don't want the cops after me because my fronts are too dark and I don't want a two tint job. lol

i don't like the blue on the Mazda6, it's like a compromise between Midnight Mica, and Laser Blue Mica. I saw on the other day, and the color is the only thing i don't like. 220HP

I oraginally thought that lazer blue wouldn't look right tinted...Until I saw one in person....It looked great. I'd definately go with the lazer blue.

Laser Blue Mica!!! Laser Blue Mica!!! Laser Blue Mica!!! Laser Blue Mica!!!

I'm a yellow fan myself, but between your choices... Laser Blue Mica!!! It looks amazing on the MP5! :)

Hi Dreams and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. (stash)

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!! (stash)

oh yeah....YELLOW!!!!!!

There is a $1000 rebate (or at least there was) which you could get w/o the 0.0%. Then there is the $500 Student advantage. All said and done, I paid $167 over invoice w/0.0% so you got a great price!

I say go with Laser Blue!! I took a gamble because there wasn't a single Laser Blue on the lot. When it came in, everyone at the dealership was buzzing about it. They all wanted to know if the Blue one was mine when I went to go pick it up.

Unfortunatly there was a dent in the rear hatch (thanks to one of the lot boys) but they took care of it. Their body shop, which also works on BMWs and VWs stripped the paint, pulled the dent, and repainted the rear hatch. Flawless except they didn't put the interior trim panel back on properly so I had to snap it into place.

Silver can look pretty good when you modify the car so that the only colors on it are black and silver. It also doesn't show scratches or look too bad when it's dirty. My last three cars were silver. Here's a pic of my Midnight Blue P5 with 35% on the sides and back.

I wanted to put my vote in for Sunlight Silver Metallic.

I still get compliments from total strangers about how much they like the car... :)

Color depends on what you're going for........

Sporty color : Laser Blue (but I like Yellow a lot more)
Sleeper (agressive, but elegant) : Midnight blue.

I bought a Midnight Blue since I didn't want a 'Boy Racer' look 24\7.

G'luck

My vote is cast ... for SILVER !

I love how my baby shines and glitters in the sun :) Slap on some wax ... polish for the black trim ... gloss for the tire walls ... sit back ... relax ... and watch people's heads turn. :)

I own a MIDNIGHT BLUE and a BLACK MICA MP5. I love them both. Highly recommend either one. Yellow is good too.

I got the Laser Blue Mica...

After seeing it on the lot in daylight I decided to get the Laser Blue Mica. Now I just need to get the windows tinted - 30%. The P5 is a great car and I can't say enough about Preston Mazda in MD that gave me a great deal (below invoice). The only complaint I have is that they put a front license plate on my car, which at the time I didn't know was "drilled" into my front bumper (WTF)! I didn't know that until the following day after I took the car home. So now I'm on the look out for front license plate plugs. If you know how to handle these nasty "holes" then reply to my message in the "appearance" section. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions on color, they were appreciated.

personally (i know im gonna get s*** for this), i think that you should definitely NOT get laser blue. ask yourself, can you live with that color for years to come?

its a trendy color. ive seen pt cruisers, 350Z's, durangos, s-10s, rsx's, and even frickin kia's in a similar bright blue color. they are all over the place. in a year or two, the next trendy color will come out and then everyone is going to buy that up. if your going to get a laser blue mazda, get the protege es. the color looks much nicer on the sedan.

remember a few years ago everyone started driving extremely bright yellow cars, it was a trend. laser blue is the 'in' color. who knows, next year car companies might start producing candy apple green cars.

dont get me wrong, i like the front of the p5 in laser blue, but the back looks nasty with the huge bright red tail lights surrounded by bright blue paint.

by now you probably think im psychotic, but i would say to get a 'timeless' color. silver, black, white, and red will always be around. even the midnight blue is a nice color, but dont let us make your mind up. you decide. what color best fits your personality?
