Getting a decent deal on a MS3 GT in the South

I've been emailing a bunch of different dealers trying to get a decent OTD price on a Mazdaspeed3 GT, but I can't seem to find a dealer around here who wants to play ball. I started off with an offer for invoice+TTL, and the exchange with two of the three dealerships went like this:

Dealer: Sure! We can do invoice no problem. Invoice is $24,000, with an OTD price of $25,500

Me: Yea...I'm pretty sure that invoice is about $1,000 or so less than that

Dealer: Oh no, the invoice price on that car is $24,000

At least the third dealer I dealet with didn't try to screw with me and said that they don't usually discount the MS3, but they could discount it down to $24k, with an OTD price of essentially the same as the other two. I'm in Birmingham, and I've pretty much tried from Birmingham to Atlanta to Nashville with no luck. So, is there anyone in the South East whose been able to ferret out a decent deal on the Speed3?

I bought mine 1 1/2 years ago with a OTD price of 22,500. But I think that may have been a thing of the past. The sticker on the car, minus dealer options, is about 24K here in Jacksonville, Fl. The dealerships you have spoke with are pretty much right on the mark.

I really just want to find out where everyone here got their MS3's for prices like $22,500+TTL, which seems to be a pretty common occurrence. Hell, I just want to get out of everything $24k OTD.

Don't listen to those stories of "I got mine for 22,xxx" because all you will do is feel unsatisfied with your purchase/future purchase.
I would say that most people claiming to get their MS3 GT for anything less than 23,000 (not including tax and fees) is BS'ing, but I would love to be proven wrong with a copy of the final contract.
I live in Cali where we have high automotive taxes and registration, and I walked out the door at around $26,500 (that includes tax, registration, APR included).
Be satisfied with the deal you found, and if you really love the car......BUY IT!! You definitely won't regret it.

I got my Sport a couple of months ago in Atlanta at Rick Case Mazda. Paid $23,012 out the door including Taxes and Reg. That was almost $1000 under invoice but with a a stupid 600 doc fee.

Keep trying and a deal will appear.

picked my CWP GT up last week for $23,000 w/ ceramic tint (includes destination of course but not including TTL). Texas

I got my MS3 Sports Metro gray last Aug. for 24,700ish out of the door. I dont know why the hell the tax and lisc here in SoCal is so crazy.

And yeah i dont know why others got their cars way too low. I know our tax and lisc here in Socal is expensive. But heck other state prices are way too. I have a feeling they are just BSing! As the other poster stated, if proven a copy of contract of sale then I would believe them. hehe

Knoxville Mazda is were I got mine for $500 under invoice. I only dealt with the internet salesman and only went to the dealer after the deal was done over the phone. I played them against a dealer in Louisville. Go to Edmunds.com and see what invoice is and offer Knoxville $500 under that and be prepared to sign if they meet it. Birmingham is not that far from Knoxville and you could save $1000.

I got my Mazdaspeed3 GT with everything except the Navigation for 23,5XX out the door. But I had to drive 2 hours to a dealership out in the middle of nowhere (Preston Mazda, Maryland if anybody knows where that is at) to pick it up. They had two and as soon as I pickedup my car, they marked up the other car $1,000 for something down the lines of a rarity fee or something like that. lol

I am pretty sure that most people on this forum have no idea what out the door means. Lets clarify:
Out the door is the final amount of the car including all taxes, registration, licenses and finance charges. All the people stating that they got their MS3 GT (not sport) for 23,xxx out the door.......please go grab your yellow invoice for the dealer, then look at the bottom line price (total), then come back and post how much you paid. That is truly out the door.
You can always prove me wrong by taking a picture of your invoice????
And Saranya that is a great base price for the car, but out the door im sure it was closer to 25,xxx right?

almost, $24.6 with tax, title, license. TX tax is 6.5%. no trade in, so no tax benefit on that.

agree'd on your points. OTD pricing is pretty irrelavant when you want to compare with others since state tax varies widely and and trade in can affect it also (TX allows you to exclude your trade-in value from being tax).

it's better to ask, what price was paid with destination (since destination is really part of invoice) but before TTL.

example. I"m not sure how Alexsered got a GT w/ sirius + options (~$650 invoice pricing) for $23,500 OTD. tax in maryland is about 6%. a base nonwhite GT is about $23.2k (22.5k+$650 destination) invoice, which TTL on just the base price is about $1.4k. so the base + options comes out to $25,250 OTD. AND this is based on invoice numbers, although there still might be a slight hidden markup...couple hundred at most.

Either he was not including destination or the dealer was so desperate that they actually dipped into the Dealer Holdback (which is crazy) or he had a trade in that potentially eliminated any state taxes (not really possible, unless it was a major downgrade in a car)

NOTE: most people forget the crystal white is about $172 more than the other colors. so my price is actually a little higher.

I don't know where my slip would be, but I had to pay that price, I got my loan from Maryland State Employee credit union (SECU) and if the price of the loan was more than $19,999 it meant that my interest would be more than 1.0% more which is a good bit. I had $4,000 grand to pay out of pocket. So do the math, How could I have paid more than I did for everything with only $4,000 to spend out of my own money. Out The Door, Taxes, Tags, Fees, Title everything package was $23,5XX which made my laon amount to be $19,5XX. Got the great interest, I owe less than what my car is worth (which is the best thing) and I love driving my car everyday.

So basically you got your car from a charity, not a dealership :P
Seriously though, why would a dealer want to lose 1.5K on the car, it is not rational. If you can show me your yellow invoice from the dealer I will believe it. Without that, we are going on your word that the dealer sold you a MS3 GT for the price of the MSRP on the sport model??? Come one dude.....

Trick them, tell them you have A plan and see what your invoice price is then...

not saying your lying Alex but the numbers just don't work.

this is what it comes to using your number.

OTD = $23,500

that means. you paid $21,850 (for the car give or take couple dollars) + $328ish (title, license, registration) + $1311 (6% Maryland car tax)

invoice for a 2008.5 GT is $23,844 (sirius, autodim+homelink, wheellocks) or $23,240 for a completely base model.

like i said, something just doesn't add up unless you didn't pay tax (is that a state employee benefit? or the dealer basically majorly dipped into their holdback which pretty much amounts to them taking a loss on the car)

not saying your wrong as I've seen a couple of people claim to get the same car as mine with full options (includes nav) for like $22k OTD and another base for $21k OTD, which just seems like complete BS no matter how good a negotiator you are.

anyways, grats on the great price. you got a extra discount from somewhere.

I also bought a 07 fully loaded CX-9 at the same time and that is why I was cut a deal.

here's the other thing about out the door price...there isn't one unless you're paying for the car in cash.

everything else gets referred to as otd, but whatever, it's really not.

you can normally figure ~10% for all fees and tax. so that means a 20000 dollar car is 22000 otd. that is not what you pay after 5 years...

Thats easier said than done. I don't have the slip or anything, I bought the car more than a year and a half ago. I have been watching the car on ebay that the dealership posted, and they Had a buy it now for about 24,XXX with free deliver in a resonable area. I called the guy up and told him I would pick it up and I am preapproved by my bank to get the car. I barely had to haggle with him, I told him my price and he just said deal. I really don't think you guys realize that Preston, Maryland is in the middle of NOWhERE, its surrounded by Corn and Tobaco farms. I think they have a website. I didn't come on here to brag, I just said what I paid, I didn't really do any research but it looks to me like I got a better deal than most people with their speed 3's. Its all good, the car is worth every cent, even if it is a couple thosand dollars more for some people. (first)

I am looking to pay for the car in cash, and Alabama has one of the lowest sales taxes for new cars in the country, so it theoretically shouldn't be too difficult to score an MS3 for around the prices that I've seen posted in here.
